Before starting my review of Revolutionary Girl Utena, I would highly recommend any first-time watcher to look at the trigger warnings for each episode of the show. The link I will provide will be above the intro paragraph I have when it comes to reviewing this show.

After watching the finale Revolutionary Girl Utena three weeks ago, I still can't stop thinking about the show in general. I never had that experience before when it comes to anime show, but that's easily means this show has a special place in my heart. Whenever any piece of media does this, I treasure it dearly and I'm so excited to explain why you should see this show.
The first reason why I fell in love with the show is that fact there are many important topics that are relevant to discuss when it comes to society as a whole. I admit that there’s tons of themes that can be discussed when talking about Utena, but the one I want to mention in this review is the show does a great job of showing how toxic it is to follow societal guidelines or how unhelpful they can be when it comes to being yourself. If anyone wants to revolutionize the world in a small or big way, the most crucial element is learning who you are as a person and sticking towards your values. Learning about yourself in a society that can be close-minded takes time and that's okay to question the guidelines society says you need to follow. When it comes to each character in the show, each of them is struggling with those various themes the show provides, but the choices they make can alter if they going to make a positive or negative action when it comes to impacting the world in their own way. I generally feel like there are more reasons to why I feel this way, but I don't want to spoil any crucial details if a viewer wants to know barley anything about how themes impact the show as a whole.
Another trait that I love about the show is how clever the foreshadowing and symbolism is. One of my favorite ways the show portrays foreshadowing is from the shadow plays girls. Whenever the shadow plays girls show up, it seems really random at first. Whenever I got use to shadow plays girls appearing in most of the episodes, I appreciate the little theatrical plays they did always meant more than what met the eye. An example that shows how well the symbolism is done is that recur a lot if you focus on the tiny details the show animates frequently. I understand that some of symbolism can seem random due to surrealistic nature of it or too abstract to some viewers when it shown only once. Despite all of that, I really enjoy analysis why certain items are important to when it comes to symbolism of this story
A standout part of the show that I didn’t’ expect before watching the show is how often duels are used throughout the show. When I learned that was a common theme, I was generally concerned on how the show wasn’t going to make the duels repetitive. Thankfully, the duels never get boring at all. The reason why is because each duel works well is that the lyrics for each duel demonstrates the reasoning to why a character did the duel in the first place. Also, the lyrics in the duels are complex at times, but makes it rewarding for anyone who wants to re-watch the show again.
Additionally, another highlight made me be in awe of this show is the animation and soundtrack. The animation is gorgeously breathtaking to look at. I could literally stare at particular scene for hours just because of hard-working work was put into animation. Also, the animation coloring pops out in each scene is memorizing and all of the hard work pays off so well. When it comes to the soundtrack, there’s no bad decision at all. The OP is super catchy, but manage to summarize the show as a whole. The ending credits songs works well regardless of how many times it changes throughout the show. I really have no complaints about the soundtracks at all because it does a great job of making me even more immerse with the show.
Revolutionary Girl Utena is a show that is timeless show I’ll never forget. I can’t help, but be passionate for this show. I sincerely hope a new first- time watcher will find this show revolutionary and something worth watching, but only if trigger warnings provided won’t affect their mental health.
