This are my thoughts on the philosophical masterpiece called Vagabond. This is my first manga review so please don't judge me. I try to make a spoiler free review but I will shortly explain the premise of Vagabond.
Vagabond is at first about the 17 year old Miyamoto Musashi or also called Takezo who wants to get the greatest swordsman of all time or at least he thinks this is a important goal in life for him. And we see troughout vagabond how he tries to get the "strongest" without realizing that he is trying to get strong in the wrong way. That is all what I want to say about the story. Vagabond is not only amazing because of its great art, it also has great characters, consistent story telling, a fantastic mixture between chilled atmosphere and action and the best thing philosopical questions about life in general. That is why vagabond is so great. Musashi, Matahachi and Kojiro are characters that are in my opinion unforgetable and masterfully written. This character has so much life in it. Every character is unique and has his own interesting story. Even matahachis mother gets her own little backstory and shows how she is raising matahachi and the struggles she has with it. At first it seems like she is the most unlikable character of all time but when you see how she loves her son in general you will see what of an woman she truly is. Some people bring the argument with some manga or anime characters that they are ment to be unlikable and in most of the times in my opinion it makes no sense that this character is unlikable. But with her it really makes sense that she is unlikable and that is so great about vagabond. It is making a story with all this characters who grow in their own way. That is so beautiful about Vagabond. Vagabond is a journey by itself even if it is a pretty long story. It is worth it because you never get bored in this masterpiece. I know berserk is pretty different from vagabond in general but it is good for me to compare when we talk about artwork and consistent story telling. Berserk can be is sometimes a little bit inconsistent in some arcs like Conviction. Berserk has everytime great artwork but it truly shines in the Falcon of the Millenium Empire Arc. But when I look at Vagabond I think that I like more the nature like art in vagabond. It is my favourite manga of all time so far (even better than Berserk I think) and I am really happy that I read this masterpiece. It is wonderful read that I can recommend to everyone, It seems like it is also pretty close to the real life of Miyamoto Musashi. It is not finished so far but I think it doesn't need to.
