This might've been the saddest manga I've ever read in my entire life.
I discovered this amazing manga after seeing what the author of Jujutsu Kaisen was writing before he did Naruto, he had this really touching and emotional story called "This Gorilla Will Die In 1 Day" dumbfounded by the amount of spoilers in the title and the fact that there were only 2 (3 if you count the alternative ending) chapters and man I was wrong.
The story enters as we see our MC Gorilla in a zoo enclosure who comes to the realization "I die tomorrow" which could be referenced to the most accurate news source on the internet "The Onion" who successfully taught a monkey about it's own mortality. Driven by this and the fact that it seemingly could think about it's own mortality and the fact that it could guess when it died. Now, Mr. Togashi here has written this manga in Japanese, meaning that when the Gorilla thinks it's most likely in Japanese but translated to English it shows "I die tomorrow" hinting that this Gorilla may be Japanese. Now, I have no idea where the fuck that led to but let's change our topic here.
Gorilla can think, wow, monke.
Gorilla's thought of "I die tomorrow" reminds me of the longest sentence ever constructed by a monkey, wonderful monkey by the name of Nim Chimpsky who could speak sign language. The longest sentence ever constructed by the Chim was "Give orange me give eat orange me eat orange give me eat orange give me you." which does confirm that it's not the first time the monkey could talk but also could be where the emotional story gets its writing from. Smart.
Now here comes the next chapter, it's assumed to be tomorrow but the Gorilla has passed thus ending this emotional manga, however here is where something that does set the ending of the Gorilla ending to the "alternative" ending if you'd call it that. The Gorilla doesn't die "Tomorrow" but in this "Tomorrow" he continues living his life and eats a banana happily. What is the canon ending Daisuke Ono? Are they both canon but different timelines that we've seen that with Dragon Ballz. What does this mean?
I think this could be meaning that it could be related to the Dovahkiin Deez universe, just like Toriko is related to that and Pirate King Tries To Find A Swimsuit, where on MyAnimeList he is labeled as "Character" not sure what that means but there might be some canon universe shifting. I would also like to mention Mr. Split-Personality Diavolo from Jojo's Part 5, it's entirely possible that this Gorilla is Diavolo and it's confirmed since Diavolo dies infinite deaths so that makes the This Gorilla Dies In 1 Day and the events of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure completely canon. I didn't know Nisio Isin of Hunter X Hunter did some writing in making Dorito a legitimate character.
Either way, 2 canon universes aside this is still a fantastic manga and I hope a sequel comes out soon! Thank You Takehito Koyasu for writing this masterpiece and thank you to the people who seen this review!
