This series was first recommended to me by a friend of mine, and I was very sceptical at first. Shoving aside the fact that our tastes hardly ever meet, the summary of the anime just reduced my motivation to start this manga. I was never too fond of delinquent like stories, and though I liked the concept of erased, my mind couldn't fathom how tokyo revengers could, in any way, make me like edgy teen characters. But my god the author has outdone himself.
Characters:(9/10)
Personally I believe the main appeal in watching shows are it's characters. So ask me, do I like the characters in Tokyo Revengers? I fucking adore them. To start Mikey is such a badass who never fails to be the spectacularly overpowered character he is expected to be. At times he is shown to be cold, but he is also shown to deeply care for his friends, which is a trait i deeply respect. Draken is the badass sidekick who isn't a sidekick, his nickname is greek for "dragon", and he does in fact outshite that title. The villian in this story is also well written, although by no means am i fond of him. A scoundrel who managed to manipulate several overpowered characters with simply his wit and managed to counter a time traveler several time can only be called a genius. I repeat by no means do I like this character, in fact i loathe him for several reasons, but it is amazing that the writer managed to create an antagonist that is hated by everyone in the community. Most of the side characters are also amazing with Baji being my favourite, however discussing about all of them would simply take up all the space. The reason i couldn't give it a 10 is because I am not very enthusiastic about our main character, I just do not see whats so "cool" or "respectable" about him getting beaten up in every existing arc.
Story:(9/10)
The story is simply jaw gripping and electrifying, with each arc being as likeable as the last if not more. They try to introduce new characters and never fail to develop them to a point where I feel it's unnatural and unnecessary for them to be there. Every death in the show would stab deep into my soul, it showed the unpredictability of the story and the absence of the notorious plot armour. I knew the aim of the story, i knew the plot or so I thought. The show leads all the way up to several different plot twists where you simply can't take anything for granted, trying to predict the story is meaningless and i think such a story that can surprise me to this extent is simply a holy grail in anime. The only complaint I have regarding the story, was the plot holes: like how did Hanagaki time travel the first time, in that timeline Naoto was dead so it wasn't logically possible for him to go back in time as there was no genuine trigger.
Artstyle(10/10)
Phenomenal, from the drawing of bloodied faces to the showcasing of epic hand to hand combat, i could feel the talent the writer put into drawing each and every panel. The character designs were also superb: Draken's hairline screams drip, Mikey's looks makes me question why I lack a vagina to be his cum dump, and Emma's design finally gave me the needed motivation to restart doujins.
Soundtrack(Anime only: 10/10)
The opening is a banger, like genuinely it hits me so hard I feel like im being banged, and witnessing every event being foreshadowed in it turns me into a 'Cry Baby'. The ending is so blessed with spectacular poses by the beautiful hinata merged with the fantastic ending song. The OST is pretty amazing too, especially the sound of Mikey's CB250T, hearing that gives a sense of pleasure to his comrades and the exact opposite to his enemies.
Enjoyment(10/10)
Ig i enjoyed it.
Overall:
Taking everything I have said into account I must rate it (48/50) in total. It is a must watch, not just for shounen fanatics and Hot boy connoisseurs but for anyone out there that is looking for a show, that is exciting, bewitching and just plain fun.
