Josee, the Tiger and the Fish is about a girl in a wheelchair named Josee who meets an university student named Tsuneo. It's a romance anime and even though the storyline seems pretty cliché, it is still pretty heartwarming in my opinion.
Josee's attitude is pretty bad at first. She's short-tempered and stuck-up and dislikes Tsuneo in the beginning, which is shown by her commanding him around a lot and annoying him on purpose by trying to make him suffer (of course not in an extreme way, more like making him do unnecessary things). Tsuneo on the other hand is calm, patient and caring, which is just SO ADORABLE.
Without trying to spoiler too much, I'll just say that the storyline is not as predictable as one might think. Josee is that Rapunzel kind of girl who cannot go out to see the world because it's too dangerous, raised only by her grandma since her parents died. The love story is this hatred-turns-to-love type of plot which some might find basic or boring. Speaking of hatred, since her attitude is pretty bad it could be an annoyance for some watchers, but I have to remind you that this girl has to sit in a wheelchair and is unable to go out. Of course she's bitter. Of course she's defensive about who to let close to her if her grandma tells her that the people out there are dangerous. Of course she's afraid of losing even more people she gets close with. Her attitude is her coping mechanism, her wall to keep others away. But with Tsuneo, all of this changes. It's a pretty realistic story that shows us how someone who is afraid of letting people close to them can learn to overcome their fears and grow confident in what they love to do. It's heartwarming because I'm sure that many of us can relate to her. Maybe we haven't met our Tsuneo yet, but we should also grow and love ourselves without the help of others.
The music is really good and I also love the animation so so so much. It makes the movie so watchable because it's just like when you're writing with a pen on paper and it glides so amazingly that you feel like you're writing with Jesus' tears (without trying to make it sound in a negative way), but for your eyes and ears. You're in heaven. You could literally watch the movie without a storyline because it's just so aesthetically pleasing.
In conclusion, the anime teaches us to pursue our dreams and never give up no matter how hard it gets. That's why I think this movie is worth watching. It may not have the craziest storyline or the coolest characters, but it shows us that it's okay to be afraid, in situations that seem hopeless. We can overcome everything if we do our best.
Thank you for reading and enduring me up until now hehe. I hope you have an amazing day!
