I first came across this anime, after having a look at reddit's Anime Iceberg meme, which covers extensive varieties of anime, ranging from 1930s to the present anime culture.
Flying Luna Clipper, created by Ikko Ono, a surreal flight journey of fruits with conscience. PHA a flight company offers special rides for the 'fruits' in this alternate universe, where the ticket price is zero, the only cost is a grand dream. The flight course covers the Hawaiian Islands, covering at least 5 islands.
If you've played the retro video games like Contra or Lara Croft, you will come across the unique animation they have, takes you back in time, invoking a sense of nostalgia and retro-ness. The animation style, rather than saying out of ordinary, diverse and unique use of color palette makes it an eye candy. The music is as good as the animation, carrying the concept of the anime right into your mind.
Sometimes you might look for a meaning, creator's message, for me it was enjoyable and yes, like Act 1 titled - Gravity,
The Act 2 Parabola Locus, shows divers, diving into water, babies cooing and rolling, this show also places a perfect balance between dreams and the feeling after a dream. Some fruits come out of the plane, discussing about the TV and the dreams they had, and departed their own ways. One such, snowman is seen to be fantasized by his dream, expressing a desire to float in the dream again.(Just like a parabola, you start at a high dream fall to reality and crave for a dream again, yet, it might not be the same, but it's unique
Flying Luna Clipper capture the sureality aptly and thus provide an escape to your, routine daily, life. This is one of a kind anime, that even if someone tried to remake it or modify it to modern anime terms, it would lose it's uniqueness, just like a childhood book/toy which lies in the corner, but once you touch it, you are sure to remember the sweet times, you had.
Is Flying Luna Clipper a legend? Yes, it's a masterpiece, a perfect blend of creators vision and dream, an artist's/animator's work, a musician's theme, altogether this makes a dream sequence come to real life, that will be cherished by me. Please leave a comment on my review. Thanks!!!
