Musashi do clã Tokugawa, foi considerado um herói no fim do período do Japão Feudal, um período de transição, em que os tradicionais métodos dos samurais foram aos poucos substituídos por armas de fogo (primitivas), ele simbolizou o auge do guia bushido (caminho do guerreiro), no qual um homem com uma espada na mão representava o máximo da realização individual.

Vários espadachins percorriam o país, alguns procurando um adversário famoso como forma de promoção, outros buscando aperfeiçoar sua técnica, Musashi foi um destes aventureiros. De acordo com o livro dos Cinco Anéis, nunca foi derrotado em combate, apesar de ter enfrentado mais de sessenta oponentes, algumas vezes mais de um simultaneamente. ''Unrivaled Under The Heavens''

Musashi nasceu na aldeia de Miyamoto, província de Mimasaka (atual Japão moderno). Com seu pai, Shinmen Munisai (ou Munisai Hirata) um goushi teve as primeiras lições com a espada.

Com sete anos Musashi fugiu de casa por causa de uma reação raivosa do pai que ameaçou sua vida, então foi viver com seu tio Dorin.

Aos treze anos, travou seu primeiro duelo, vencendo o então famoso espadachim Arima Kihei.

Com apenas 17 anos, Musashi decide participar na Batalha de Sekigahara com ao seu lado o seu melhor amigo de infância Matahachi.

Desde muito novo que Musashi já sabia lutar, todos comentavam o facto de ele ser filho de um demónio, e ser um demon child devido à reputação do pai, que com ela tornou ainda mais Musashi num verdadeiro monstro a quem se tente confrontar mas tambem foi isso que o fez tornar-se numa personagem icónica e incrivel, o seu unico objetivo era tornar-se o melhor, mais forte, daí ter percorrido uma grande jornada, enfrentando vários samurais e mestres que tornaram-no apenas mais forte, o facto de ele nunca ter tido nenhum mestre, fez com que ele não soubesse muito sobre a espada e sobre educação e maneira/estilo de ser e de lutar mas coisa era certa, ele sabia matar, e lutava como um selvagem, como uma fera monstruosa que apenas se residia na montanha, pode não ter tido uma figura paterna tão boa, mas teve a montanha sempre consigo e do seu lado, e foi o suficiente para tornar Takezo num incrivel mestre.

Por fim, a história de Vagabond ensina-nos a refletir um pouco e tambem a compreender como eram as personagens e que nem sempre os demonios são demonios mas sim anjos da guarda, é muito semelhante e adapta-se muito bem à realidade histórica que foi, por outro lado não nos podemos esquecer da arte do desenho usado na obra, que por ela apenas já vale apena ler.

Musashi was born in the village of Miyamoto, Mimasaka Prefecture (present-day modern Japan). With his father, Shinmen Munisai (or Munisai Hirata) a goushi he had his first lessons with the sword.

At the age of seven Musashi ran away from home because of an angry reaction from his father that threatened his life, so he went to live with his uncle Dorin.

At the age of thirteen, he fought his first duel, defeating the then famous swordsman Arima Kihei.

At the age of 17, Musashi decided to participate in the Battle of Sekigahara with his childhood best friend Matahachi at his side.

From a very young age, Musashi already knew how to fight.
