This series was one of those rare ones I can tell everyone I read the manga before jumping to the animated chapter. Obviously the excitement was real when this anime was said to be released last spring and I was already hyped of the reality of Deku's VA being scolded by Overlord's precious vampire princess' VA. But as I was still much more further in with the manga I figured I could wait a little longer and so I did, and to be honest it made the watching experience small bit more rewarding.
The OP song blew me away, I kinda got tipped away about the song from a source, but goddammit it was good. As I was experienced the storyline and knew about the characters I was at first more interested how did the studio animate some of the iconic scenes. And good god some of them were so imaginative so I couldn't help other than be impressed. And I think the animated version in some ways went little bit extra with the pervy stuff but not in too overwhelming way (I am experienced, trust me). And yes if the pervy comedy isn't for you, this series might be too much, I could definitely see that. With the side characters I definitely thought they benefitted from getting voice actors --- made them more distinguishable in general. I thought the comedy worked quite well and saying this series is just a lite hentai adaptation is an insult that I would understand with other titles but not with this one.
But yea in general a enjoyable comedy anime with pervy jokes attached to it. Character background well used to create depth and small plotlines about how the chemistry works and don't work in the main character's realitionship. As I feel comedy's are quite subjective and hard to rank, I pretty much think this series deserves better than average rating so don't take my scores seriously. Cheers!
In general when it comes to this pervy comedy in especially japanese animations, I tend to have quite elastic way of thinking what works and what is too much. And I definitely think there has to be tiers attached about what sort of stuff you are talking about. If smuts are between hentai and this weird "pervy comedy", this anime would be in the high ranks of this "pervy comedy" lurking towards the smut section and being curious what's in there. And maybe this style of comedy is just makes Nagatoro -- Nagatoro. And to be honest I'm not that much of a fan of the main character. I don't really have much sympathy for him personally, but the way he becomes much more "chadder" (yes we all know what I mean) over the series makes me little bit proud of him. And I literally root for him most of the time --- which is funny and bizarre to me at the same time.
