This one is hard to rate bc "rating" a show means comparing it to everything else I have seen and this show is so much difference than everything else I have seen. The cast of characters are pretty young so a lot of the romantic debacles are very adolescent. While this does not make the situations any less funny, in fact its probs more funny this way, sometimes' the problems of the characters can seem pretty small. I thought all of the writing was surprisingly intricate and well thought out, and I think a 12 epi season format was a good thing for the show. And for me personally, it helped me that I watched in dub and sub; sometimes comedic moments land better in my ears than my eyes. I was never frustrated by the two leads' "will they/ wont they" situation; I pretty much accepted that as the premise. I think if you understand that dynamic from the beginning, and the show repeats it to you all the time incase you do not, you should not really be expecting anything else. I really connected with the prez by the end, watching him relive his romantic scene though the lens of cringe hit very close to home. Fujiwara and Ishigami were awesome opposites, that after added to the cast, made the dynamics of the scenes more enjoyable for me than the back and forth of our two main cast members. Also Hayasaka is ez bestgirl obvi. I have many good memories of moments from the show, but tbh i would probs no rewatch. i would however recommend it to certain people who wanted a good rom-com anime, or to someone around the time of them meeting their first love, or right after.
My criticism would be that the author sacrificed plot progression for character moments 90% of the show. The last 2 epis of the season had a continuing story, barely, but every other epi could be watching in any order, or a single epi as a one-off. Other shows I have watched will either balance plot progression and character moments simultaneously, or take turns going back and forth. This was really the first anime I can remember of seeing without an overarching plot. And if I had already love the cast coming into the show, it would have been more ok with me to spend time with them kinda sitting around flirting with each other. But before I had connected to these characters yet, and with no plot pushing the story, some scenes with characters I did not really know yet were not easy to watch. To be fair, this maybe is what "slice of life" is, by definition. So this might be like saying I did not like this shonen bc there was too much fighting. In which case this is probs not fair of me to say, and this experience was just a consequence of my lack of familiarity with shojo.
