Note before the start: This obviously has some spoilers. The review is from MY PERSONAL POINT OF VIEW, everyone will appreciate and see something else, by this review i wish to give you a new look on the anime :D, feel free to let me know your POV... everyone is unique and values something else more than others.
.
Intro
I believe it's safe to say that at least half of weebs and anime watchers are gamers. Let's say you have a gamer friend who hasn't watched anime yet. What could be one of the best, if not the best suggestions you could make? YES, obviously this anime.
Now I don't want to make the intro too long here. I will just say that even an anime like this has something to takeaway from it.
Keita Amano
Keita Amano at first gave me Hachiman Hikigaya vibes (MC of Oregairu) which then got away very quickly. He really loves playing video games... he likes them to an extent where he doesn't have time for building connections and relationships with other people in real life because he is just too busy playing games. Now this is where other characters like Karen Tendo, Chiaki, Tasuku or Aguri came in. Since they were gamers... it created a very nice space for all of them to improve in building some irl relationships. Despite Keita being sometimes really dreamy or not getting some obvious hints... he still is really kind and caring... so if a character had the patience and explained the situation to him... you knew that he would do everything it took to have the best outcome.
Karen Tendo
Blonde girl + Karen = well... this itself was funny hehe. Putting this aside i really loved the outgoing and also shy personality Karen showcased to us. She really was someone who i believed could help Keita Amano grow his circle and experience in irl space he wasnt in so much before. Despite her getting rejected at first by Keita - both club invitation and dating i guess we can say, she never gave up and remain patient with him - and this is what i believe ultimately made me believe that she is someone who can be in a relationship with Keita, since he as we said before is really dreamy and sometimes not getting the hints.
Chiaki Hoshinomori
Chiaki is almost a female version of Keita. Only difference would be that she is even more socially awkward than Keita. I would say that at first she is able to build a relationship like Keita... but then after developing interest in Keita. And Tendou Karen being there. It created the drama in the anime. And seeing a fellow gamer dealing with something like this was indeed funny and fun.
Tasuku Uehara
Tasuku Uehara at first glance seemed really egoistic and full of himself. At first, he was looking down at Keita because of him being alone all the time, calling him a loser. These things change once he sees him
Aguri Sakurano
Aguri Sakurano at first glance seems like a crazy gamer girl who is really carefree... well, she is not a gamer, and her true personality want like that at first because of being made fun of in the past where she was more introverted. This changes once she starts talking to Keita more.. She stops accusing him that he is taking away Tasukus’ attention on purpose. This is also a place where we could see that she actually has deeper emotional intelligence than other characters. This resulted in her seeming more mature to Tasuku. And I would say so as well, she really matured at the time. This is something I don't think characters achieved expecting her... I think she started to build that free spirit and being herself more than others... maybe that's just my opinion.
Maintakeaway
Now even though this is a romcom... I don't believe that there is any anime without a single takeaway, GAMERS for sure provided a lot of funny and relatable moments for me as a fellow gamer. With that said, the two things I believe you could takeaway from this anime are the importance of honesty in a relationship and being true to yourself... if characters didn't try to work on being honest with themselves and each other... I don't believe that they would have as much fun... and they maybe wouldn't even spend so much time together as they did.
