Hello Again!
At the moment I am watching small anime's and anime films both on and off my list. Another was one on the list that I knew very little about. This anime caught me off guard many times throughout its episodes and while i never LOVED this show, I did enjoy it. Maybe it's because I am in a funny head space at the moment which is lowering how attached I become to shows, but I still am able to enjoy these. SPOILERS AHEAD, DUH!
Another is filled with suspense, surprise and creepy vibes. From the very first episode I was creeped out, it had an eerie atmosphere, with dark places and mysterious actions and people, it definitely hit the right tone for me, as my first creepy anime. Straight from the get-go I was trying to understand and guess what was going-on but now having finished it I realise I just felt right into the trap of the writing. I instantly assumed, Mei Misaki is dead, she was a pale girl, quiet and reserved and no one else could see her, and hell she creeped me out.
The first death completely caught me off guard, but I was very excited. Such a drastic turn of events and the introduction of a good amount of blood and gore hit the perfect spot and I knew that this show was about to get GOOD. I knew the show was creepy but a teenager being killed in such a manner, and not just any character but one that had been displayed as kind and a generally enjoyable character was killed in such a memorable way that it completely shocked me, and I was here for it.
As the story develops, things slowly make sense, understanding why Mei is "non-existent" the calamity, all the events that are in play begin to add up. With this there is a lingering question of Who is the extra student. This question is what really excited me, with two main characters and other quite prevalent supporting characters, it felt that there was a large pool of candidates that could be this "Other". Initially I believed it to be Sakakibara, it made sense, he was a transfer, few people knew him hell even the show mentioned he might have been the one to die not his mother. But as it develops, I began to suspect Mei, she shows up conveniently in places, she's way to calm, pale and creepy, she hates PHONES (electromagnetic stuff to do with ghosts idk) it just added up.
AND THEN AGAIN, I suspected Akazawa, and all the other supporting roles, but never did I guess at Reiko and I was so happy that i didn't, while watching i kept saying to my brother, this show will get a good score if it's reveal is good, I didn't want it to be Sakakibara or Mei, it was too simple or at least if it was, make it a good ass reveal. But the Teacher! Never did I expect that and hell it all added up as we are shown, we knew this from Episode 1 but never thought about it. This was exactly what I wanted for the show, a creepy vibe, lots of death and a reveal that caught me off guard and I got exactly that.
Other than the reveal, the amount of death was pure chaos and I loved it. As someone who adore the Amazon Show "The Boys" gore and blood is a love for me. Especially in the final few episodes, this show just goes into utter chaos killing teenagers all over the place in all manners of grotesque and painful ways. Every single one catching me off guard, not a single death was underwhelming or predictable. Hell even back at episode 7, I had left the show for a weekend and forgot the teacher pulled out a knife, coming back to that episode after a break to watch a teacher kill himself brought me straight back into this great anime.
Character Wise, they were all generally enjoyable characters. Sakaibara's two friends were fun and Akazawa made for good moments too, Sakakibara himself was OK, nothing special. Mei was both creepy and lovable and honestly I don't know how i feel about her, I both love the cold, non-caring character but also just don't. Also i have to give credit to this beauty of a scene:

Overall, I enjoyed the plot of the show and liked the characters. May be worth a rewatch in future in a better headspace? Still a good show overall.
