This is my first written review for an anime. Sorry if it's really bad but I'm basically just putting my true feelings into word form.
Characters and Story 7/10 - If you're a fan of the show. This should go without saying. The characters are timeless. The story can be tiresome at several points however. There are certain episodes where it feels like nothing is happening at all. I checked a filler list. I did watch some filler by accident, but episodes that were listed as canon still felt like filler anyway. I know this is an older long form Shonen series so I won't be too harsh on it.
Naraku as a villain is good at what he does. His actions to me are completely twisted and sinister. He's literally just evil to be evil. It’s great. He makes you truly hate his character.
Inuyasha as a main protagonist is just classic. In the beginning he’s a self absorbed asshole with only his own interests in mind. He’s thick headed and naïve. He’s written so well. Because of Kagome however he gets a bit soft but for stories sake it’s a natural progression.
Kagome as a female protagonist is good, to a point. Can be a bit boring at times. But towards the end of the story she becomes more reliant on Inuyasha after he moves past Kikyo. They are able to work on their relationship more as a whole and its good to see.
The rest of the supporting cast is rather entertaining. I understand Jaken and Shippo are there for comedy relief but I really don’t like them and get on my nerves. Sesshomaru is soft spoken and sometimes more interesting than Inuyasha. he's kind of like a reverse Tsundere honestly. As for the rest of the group.... Miroku and Sango seem kind of useless at first. But they end up being solid characters in their own right. Their relationship is quite uncomfortable however. And with him trying to constantly grope Sango it makes my angry. Even when they have their “moment” it still feels forced and unnecessary. He basically molested her straight into marriage.
Kikyo is the most tragic character in the whole show. She suffered so much and didn’t really deserve any of the pain and sorrow she was given. I do enjoy her character quite a bit more than Kagome.
Art and Animation 10/10 - I adore the character designs and art style in this show. I’m a sucker for the aesthetic of 90’s anime and this is probably the best executed one I’ve seen so far. I do wish there was an upscaled 16:9 version of this show. 4:3 is not the vibe.
Music/VA 10/10 - There are quite a few tracks in this show that flow incredibly well with moments on screen. Very memorable. The Japanese dub is overall more consistent than the English one. I’m not an English dub hater. In the context of this show however, all of the characters with Japanese names residing within ancient Japan are just better pronounced by the native speaking people.
I could make this review longer. But I lack the literary skills and the ability to put thoughts into words. And thus I would be rambling incoherently. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this show and It’s a timeless classic that I recommend everyone watch at least once.
