First I want to say that in short, if you liked Great Pretender you will like this, I am sure. Personally I think Great Pretender is slightly better, now let me say the whole review.
Super Crooks, is a story about supervillains in a world with superpowers, based on an comic which isn't Japanese. It's hard to say what the story is about more than that, because the story is divided into different arcs and each has it's own problems and reasons and motivations. First arc is an introduction of the main character so it might feel boring though I enjoyed it. Next we can say that there are 2 major arcs both being a team of supervillains plotting a grand heist and executing it.
The story isn't complex, and the plans they come up with are not something that you would call top fiction, though in the story these are some crazy and genius plans. The world itself is somewhat interesting, people get superpowers somehow and now their kids have them too, what happens is some become superheroes and some supervillains, or they just live a regular life. But don't compare it to MHA, I mean, you can, but in MHA most people have quirks, here just small number of people got superpowers.
So while the world isn't very much talked about, the characters are something else, and the story of the main character and his development is what the story focuses on.
I legit think that Super Crooks has one of the best cast of characters. Almost all of them are generic at first glance, but they are not. The cast is big and we get so many different characters, everyone with a cool and memorable design, add a god level animation with amazing CGI scenes and you get so good fucking quality there. I should talk about the characters development and importance for the story in this section, but I just had to mention the design itself, it's so sick and they look amazing.
Now about their personality, there is no one character which I hate, and that's good, all of them have good written behavior and they act accordingly. The main character get some good development from basically a teenager into a man, kinda. The dialogues are interesting, the interactions, and each of them are very fun to watch.
I already mentioned it but the animation is sick, characters look badass and the fights are amazing. Add a no censorship at all of gore, blood and sex scenes which look almost like hentai. The gore is so strong at one scene I had to look a way for a second, even though it's drawn.
The music is also nice, I liked the opening it got a good vibe with the show, though the song itself isn't the style I like to listen to.
The only problem I got with this show is the pacing. It's too fast, I honestly want a 24 episodes version. The cases are too fast so they can't focus too much on details. There is time limit so they just often skip stuff and make a couple of years jump without telling what happened in between. All of the action is going very fast and I tried to watch all on one go, but couldn't because I had to take breaks.
I have no idea why they made it 1 cur, perhaps the budget or something else but the pacing is the main reason I remove points for the score of it.
An unusual show. Made with style and love. This is not for everyone, and they definitely didn't try to go mainstream, and this is what I like. Even if it's not that great, they created something that is not common and interesting to watch, something that you watch and you can't compare it to anything else (except for Great Pretender). I recommend it to anyone who liked Great Pretender, who likes superpowers, and especially likes to watch villains in action.
