A Review of Afro Samurai's Manga, and The Differences between the Anime & Manga.
My Spoiler Free Afro Samurai Anime Review. Spoilers for anime and manga. ____
___Afro Samurai is an Animanga Franchise, that was done in part by Gonzo & Samuel L Jackson & Takashi Okazaki.
Takashi Okazaki is the creator, & the artist of Afro Samurai.
Now I do prefer the Anime over the manga, and we'll get into that but let me explain the story real quick.
Afro Samurai is the story of Afro, who saw his father get murdered before his eyes, it is of course a revenge story. Now the person who murdered his father was Justice, Justice killed his father for the number one headband which in the world of Afro Samurai, the person who obtains the #1 headband is treated and looked at as a god. To obtain the number one headband you have to get the number 2 headband, which almost always involves killing.
Got it? Okay lets get into it.

Characters in the manga are not very different than from the anime, we have Ninja, Afro, Jinno & Justice, we of course have more characters but these are the main. We also have the empty seven clan, now that I'm thinking about it I forgot to mention in my anime review. All the characters are still good in the manga.
One thing I actually like more about the manga is the themes, The story is about revenge and the anime ends with him beating Justice. In the manga, it took him so long to find Justice that he was dead when he found him meaning to Afro that his entire revenge journey was for nothing, which I actually prefer writing-wise. Now in the anime, I love the ending, don't get me wrong, I just really like that he took so long he's dead. Afro also kills a man at the beginning for the #2 headband (he saved the guy's kid), and then the kid saw of course, afro did the same thing that Justice did to him, reflecting that he is not much better than justice, at the end of the manga, the kid comes to kill, unlike justice, Afro actually doesn't die to the kid and beats him.
Now the world building is also different in the manga, in the anime, we don't get a ton of exploration into the #1 mountain nor did we see a lot of town, where we saw the girl from his childhood. In the manga the town is almost cult like to worship the #1, and the mountain is like a city, which does explain a lot of the sci-fi type elements in the manga/anime.

Now lemme get to where I prefer the anime. The art is very good but the fights are very hard to comprehend, I barely could get what was happening when reading it.
A big part of why Afro Samurai is so good is because of the clear fights, and great animation, and you don't have that very much in this manga. Another reason why Afro Samurai's anime is so good is because of the soundtrack & voice acting, and of course this doesn't have that. Why the VA and Soundtrack is so important is because it really sets the tone and just makes everything that much better. Soundtrack By RZA, the de-facto leader of The Wu Tang Clan, a legendary rap group and Samuel L Jackson's Voice Acting including Yuri Lowenthal, who is the dub voice actor of Sasuke from Naruto & Kururugi Suzaku from Code Geass.

Welp, I'm pretty sure that's it.
Should you read or watch Afro Samurai?
It really depends what you value in fiction, but definitely the anime.
The anime's themes are great, I just liked how those 2 things were handled in the manga.
The anime has a banger soundtrack, animation and voice acting. Which the manga has none of.
I would recommend watching the anime and if you want more read the manga. Don't get me wrong the manga is great, but it isn't nearly as hype.
