TL;DR The animation is almost nonexistent, half the time it's just still images, and the faces of most of the characters are hard to look at. Most of the characters are either boring or creepy, and despite episodes being ~2 and a half minutes after the OP they feel like they drag on forever. 1.8/10 // 18/100
Spoilers below I guess? Don't watch this show it's not even worth a "watch because it's bad" watch.
The visuals of Pillow Boys is... it looks bad. Like, I can't put it any other way. I already don't like the art style, and the show is also barely animated. It's almost like reading a visual novel. Actually, that's kind of an insult because even some visual novels have better animated cutscenes than this show.
Now to get into the meat of this review, the characters. There's two that aren't either creepy or boring, Yuuichirou (Food Stall) and Yuu (Delusions of Grandeur), which is ironic because Yuuichirou calls himself a creep. I think that Yuu and Yuuichirou are both cool as fuck and probably the only characters I would willingly talk to. Mayyybe Merry or Eiji (Dialect)
The worst offender is by far Kanade (Music) as he manages to be boring and creepy at the same time? Get you a man who can do both. Plus, he's also the ugliest guy in the cast, I don't know if I think that because of bias or because I'm right but I can't stand looking at him.
Another creepy one is Yayoi and Yonaga (Twins), like just look at this image:
THAT LOOKS STRAIGHT OUT OF A HORROR SHOW I'M TELLING YOU. Whole episode triggers my flight or fight response.Also, the librarian dude who I'm not even gonna bother checking the name of, holy shit is that guy BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORING. That's the only episode that actually made me sleepy because it was hard to focus on him. He was just SO bland.
And I've been putting it off but I think I have to talk about this
Hope this isn't a hot take, but maybe we shouldn't be referring to a five-year-old as "hot." I'm hoping this is a translation error, but I've been having my doubts since in the first episode it shows Merry very clearly being romantic with you, and the last episode shows him significantly aged down and acting in a similar fashion which is weird!!Conclusion, it's so bad, but still not the bottom of the barrel, 1.8/10 // 18/100
