Before I start, ill have to say that this review is for all of the snafu so it may contain spoilers.
I have just rewatched the show after watching it for the first time in 2019 so as I'm writing this review, there will probably be a whole lot of grammar issues due to excitement and English being my second language, so please, forgive me.
I'll start with my first time watching this show, I had just started my second year in high school (11th grade) and it would be a stretch to say that my mindset was the same as it is now, one could say that I even related to Hachiman in his first season super edgy phase, so watching this almost 2 years later really made me see things in another light.
Plot:
Overall, from the outside, it seems pretty simple, right? because it really is. it's a love triangle, what made snafu what it is, are the characters and the way they interact with each other, how they grow by interacting within themselves.
Characters:
As far as characters go, I would say that every character that actually contributed to our story proceeding was a good one, haruno, hayama, iroha, shizuka, and even saika, just kidding.
even though I would really love to elaborate more about those characters that contributed to our story heavily, I want to keep it short therefore I will focus on our three main characters.
Yui:
Yui, at the start, looks like the odd one out. Back in the early stages of season one, we saw her as one of the popular kids in the class, she had and still has no problem socializing with other people, unlike Yukino and Hachiman, later on, we find out that this is all nothing but a sham, she just goes with the wave and does whatever the group wants, she doesn't think for herself and she usually casts herself aside.
Yukino:
In the beginning, she looks like the perfect girl, she got it all. Quickly we find out that she actually doesn't have anything, inability to socialize, inability to put her feelings into words, inability to speak for herself, inability to decide her own future every way you look at her, she is hopeless, the complete opposite of what she had been introduced as in the start.
Hachiman:
People have written entire essays on this character so I won't elaborate much. Season one Hachiman is like your typical loner but 20 times worst, he has no intention of socializing, he thinks youth is a lie and those who enjoy it are dumb, he has no intention of being a part of the club, he just wants to be alone by himself and let everything fly by, like how he is used to.
After I have done a somewhat obvious and pretty short explanation about our main characters now is the time for the actual thing.
Character interaction:
After you have read what I said and what is clearly obvious about our characters you have probably found out that all of them are quite twisted they look similar but in reality each one of them is unique. When all three are put together the dialogue is always interesting, fascinating and always makes you try to read between the lines while most of the time you cant. Each one of them grows by how they deal with the others whether it's for a club activity or just what looks like a normal conversation, there is always something that makes their character shine in a good or bad way and brings development for each one of them, they thrive, the struggle, they try, they fail, they try to repair their relationship but fail again and again and again, each one of them brings out something of the other that we didn't know existed in the long run and in the end all of our main characters have changed.
I think we have all found ourselves relating to one of our characters at one point while the people who have been in their 14yo edgy phase in the past will say they related to early Hachiman and, to be honest, I think it is beautiful, even now, after my youth had "ended" I still found myself, relating, and learning some lessons from this show.
P.S
I may actually delete this if I don't like it when I look at it in the morning, as it's kinda late rn.
