Diabolik Lovers Review
I can't believe I sat through this show in one sitting.
Warning: A ton of spoilers ahead if you're wanting to watch this mess
Overview
Diabolik Lovers kicks off with this cute little girl named Yui arriving at this big ass mansion at the request of her father. Already this is a major red flag because she's literally a 17 year old high schooler sent to live off with a bunch of strangers. When she arrives, we see that the occupants of the house are six brothers who are confused as to why she's there. They soon realise that she's their new 'sacrificial bride.' And from there ensues a whole bunch of bloodlust and harrassment.
Characters
Every single character in this show is one dimensional and very unlikeable. None of their relationships with Yui is different as they all see her as a 'blood sack.' All of them are trying to claim her for their own and I don't even know why because don't all of them have to drink her blood to survive?? I especially hate Kanato because he's so creepy, always muttering to his Teddy Bear and lurking around. Mans obsessed with seeing Yui cry its so scary. Subaru, the youngest brother has anger issues and he was so irritable because all he did was break things. But halfway through he gives Yui a knife that can kill vampires and tries to help her escape by telling her what time was best to go out. I don't know how that would work or how he knew but hey at least he's trying to help. This was very out character but he also decides to treat her like a blood sack by biting her and saying that 'he belongs to her'. Guess what, Yui doesn't escape because she wants to find out the 'truth'. How would she even do that, no ones even telling her anything. She's your typical pathetic MC with no other personality trait than being 'nice.' She's always falling over and and the second hand embarrassment oh my god. There's no character development or even anything remotely emotional whatsoever. It would have been great if Yui plotted this elaborate scheme or tricked them or just anything.
Plot
Nothing really noteworthy happens at the start as all that happens is that Yui keeps getting bitten by all of them continuously. The scenes are also very disturbing with Yui trying to tell them to stop but them biting her all over. Not to mention the really disgusting sucking sounds they make. Apparently the brothers attend a night school which is hard to believe as it only showed them attending once and even then they didn't attend class but just messed around in the kitchen. There was this one incredibly laughable scene where Yui is praying in the Church, and Laito (the weird seductive one that calls her little b***) trots along and once again an assault scene. She prays to God during this and Laito laughs at her telling her that the Church sent her here. Yui says "even so, I still believe." Someone please slap some sense into her. No further elaboration is made on how the whole 'sacrificial bride' thing works or what relationship the Church or the public has with vampires. There are a few flashbacks showcasing the boys' childhood and their different mothers, they all seem to have pretty bad relationships with them. Ayato, Laito and Kanato have the same mother, Cordelia and wow oh my god I might just puke. This wasn't in the first season but I found out that Laito and Cordelia had a
It also shows her treating Ayato harshly so she's a terrible mother and person. The cherry on top of all this is that she also had a thing going on with her husband's brother. Unsurprisingly, the triplets end up murdering her while their Uncle takes Cordelia's heart to resurrect her someday. Yui continually sees their mother in her dreams as she gets closer and closer to 'awakening.' We discover that the 'awakening' is when Cordelia takes over Yui's body as she has Cordelia's heart. Which absolutely makes no sense because when did this happen? How did they get her heart in her?? It goes back and forth with Yui trying to reject Cordelia's presence. So that 'no one gets hurt' (Yui's words not mine) she ends up stabbing herself and literally dies. There' s a pathetic swordfight with Ayato and the Uncle when suddenly, Kanato rips open the Teddy Bear which has a vial contained in it that somehow resurrects her. What in the world is going on. So you're tryna tell me that he just so conveniently had a magical vial that saved her??
ugly crying starts
And that's literally how this all ends.
Art/ Sound
The art was quite pretty with attractive character designs. What a waste of decent art. The opening was cringe and the background music was just some cliché horror sound tracks.
Conclusion
This was such a waste of time but if you're looking for something to laugh at then be my guest. Thanks for reading!
