Komi-san, the typical formulated modern anime that blows up in popularity on it's broadcast but that anybody will remember in a few months because its only hook is the treatment of a trending subject.
Story (3/10): If it was for the other categories this series would just be the generic anime of mediocre score that I would just watch and ignore, but the plot angers me a lot. The main topic they want you to believe they deal with is social anxiety, but let's be honest, this is only about the trendy otaku fetish of shy and quiet girls that objectifies women in the most misogynistic way possible. It's a pure comedy that tries to show gags and "realistic" situations of people with that issue but it's completely bogus and stereotyped, they don't want to make it look real, they just want Komi to look cute and weak. Using a disorder as a fetish is awful.
Characters (4/10): The cast is just the generic slice of life characters, but even with that they do it wrong, so wrong. Komi turns from shy and introvert to social and unconcerned. There's no explanation for the relationship of the two main characters. Osana is the worst one of all of them, he/she is a non-binary character but his/her identity confusion is only used as a constant inner joke for him/her and the other characters. I'm glad to start seeing non-normative characters in anime but if they are used like this they only stigmatize them more. Oh, and of course she is sexualized with her lack of breasts and feminine clothing. There's nothing to say about other characters, they have no personality but at least they don't rile me up. And wait, are they even male characters on this show? I only see fluttered school girls making a fuss.
Animation (7/10): The animation is correct and sometimes good but it's SO overrated. The studio knew how to gain status by giving the first episode very great and detailed pictures and movements and making the other episodes completely average. But don't be fooled, sometimes they use good sequences and 3D implementation but they can easily afford it because the character designs are so simplistic and easy to draw. The faces and heads are just a cluster of polygons and there's no shading and almost no shadowing.
BSO (6/10): To be honest, I don't remember anything about the BSO, so probably its just generic and forgettable. I give it an extra point because the opening was catchy in some parts but no big deal.
Just watch this anime if you are bored and want something to put in the background when multitasking. It pisses me off that producers and fans give the show credit for dealing with so many social issues when it's just pure fan service.
