I really wanted to like Birth more. It has so many fun ideas going on with it. Birth takes place on a desert planet where everyone gets around on interesting scifi vehicles and motorbikes, bumbling robots survey the area looking for survivors to kill, and scruffy survivors are just trying to get by. I adore the concept and a large part of the execution but just like the robots it bumbles a bit, for me at least.

That said if you'd like to see a cute girl float around on a hover bike and make a complete fool out of dumb robots this is your movie. It offers that in spades. Rasa and her little buddy Monga go from chase scene to chase scene with barely a chance to take a breather. And man are these chase scenes beautifully animated and fun so I'm not complaining.

If you like 80s anime tech and machinery as much as I do then this one is up your alley as well. A lot of it is just Bao's ship but most of the tech shown gets at least one up close beauty shot showing some nice detail.

There's some story here, most of it being inferred eventually, it's really not why you're coming into this one. You're here for the animation and the invigorating action scenes.

Birth is gorgeous and stylish with some awesome shots that I had to pause and take in. It goes to some fun places, tries to make you laugh, shows you beautiful sites, and then dips which I can appreciate. I just couldn't shake the feeling that it could have been better. It really dragged at certain points and I couldn't tell if that was a me problem or a problem with the film.

There's a little incel robot that blows up the planet too? I'm not joking that is genuinely a side plot turned major plot point and I was baffled.

All in all I'd recommend watching Birth at least once if anything said or shown here has grabbed your interest. It's a gorgeously animated fun little action adventure romp through a desert with a fun cast. I can definitely see this being someone's favorite.
I wouldn't pay too much attention to the score I gave it. I honestly could go up or down on any score depending on the day I'm having. The way I feel about it is written above.
