First off I want to thank Scamboli Reviews on youtube for recommending such a great piece of fiction. Go check out his channel if you are looking for recommendations or a laugh.
Kurosawa starts off the story as a disgusting piece of shit. Everyday he goes and wanks in the girls bathroom at 5:00 PM, its his "daily routine." Only 30 chapters later Kurosawa completely turns around his life and goes from hating others for having fun, to trying his best to live large.
Kurosawa is the embodiment of character development. When Kurosawa is caught by Kitahara in the girls' bathroom and becomes her accomplice in defiling classmates' belongings he was at an all time low. I was disgusted with his actions and rightly so, his classmates were too. So when he admitted and apologized for his actions in front of the whole class, I was dumbfounded. I had to get up and walk away for a few minutes. Kurosawa's character development is crazy, but not unreasonable. Many things Kurosawa thinks are things average teenage boys could agree with. I found myself inspired with his betterment. If he could come back from rock bottom (jerking off to his classmates in the girls' bathroom) to asking out the girl he was in love with, then I could do anything! Now that might be a bit ambitious of me, but that's how I felt reading the story.
The side characters in this manga were fantastic.
Takigawa was a great example of what being a kind and outgoing person should be. She didn't care about who you were or whether you were considered a "reject."
I've never seen a character be so blindly nice to everyone like Nagatsuka was. The dude kept trying to be friends with Kurosawa despite Kurosawa hating his presence. Nagatsuka would invite Kurosawa to outings like karaoke and constantly try to befriend Kurosawa. Despite being slightly annoying at the beginning of the story, Nagatsuka becomes Kurosawa's light later. Nagatsuka forgives Kurosawa for his loathsome actions first, and this greatly helps Kurosawa persevere.
Kitahara was very human. Although her requests to Kurosawa were vile, I couldn't really get upset with her for them. Kitahara was violently bullied for a long time, so she was slowly losing her grip on her sanity. Her anger kept building up like a swelling balloon. When she finally snapped and stabbed herself in class, it didn't feel like an action a real human wouldn't do. I could relate to her frustration. I could relate to how she felt backed against a wall, it was understandable that she attempted to take her life multiple times and became a shut in. All this only made it more satisfying to see her overcome it all, thanks in part to Kurosawa.
Lastly Sugawa's development was touching. Seeing her go from the main one bullying Kitahara, to trying her best in school and looking down on those who bully was like quenching your thirst on a hot summer day. Her relationship with Kurosawa blossoming was a touch that I thoroughly enjoyed at the end of this great story.
Overall, this story about a guy wanking in the girls' bathroom at 5:00 PM everyday is genuinely one of the endearing stories you can read.
