I'm going to get a lot of hate for this review.
Before reading BLAME!, I've heard only good things about it. Everyone complimented this manga's atmosphere and the mangaka's talent at making sci-fi and post apocalyptic landscapes. I'll be honest, it truly is amazing and even I was in ecstasy whenever a page came out to be a really detailed and gritty building, corridor or even just a couple of pipes.
As much as I loved the uniqueness and atmosphere of the manga, that's all it had going for it.
Firstly, I already said that the mangaka had a talent in drawing structures, but I don't think he has a talent in drawing humans. All of the characters that were supposed to be important seemed to get mashed into each other like mashed potatoes. Most of the time I didn't even understand who is who anymore. The characters weren't even that interesting, no character development happened, but I also don't think there needed to be any. Just a variation in personalities would have been appreciated. It felt like the author just copy pasted the same character at least 6 times and more.
The only memorable character that I kinda enjoyed and that was weirdly the only one that was different, was Dhomochevsky's companion, ghost looking thing, Iko. By making it just a floating ghost face, it caught my attention in a very dark and detailed background. I also liked the persona of this character.
Story... Honestly, there wasn't much going on. All I got from the story was that a guy named Killy (who knows what he even is. Is he a human, one of the silicon lifeforms or a safeguard, I still don't know what he is) is looking for a net terminal gene (who knows what that is and what it does, they might have mentioned it, but the way the story progresses just makes everything so pointless that you just forget everything as you read it)
All in all, I suggest skipping on this one.
