OKAY! Here we go baby! Oh boy what the hell have I got myself into...
Let me first start off by saying that this anime is one that everyone LOVES to hate... We've beaten that horse to within an inch of its life countless times since it aired in 2007. The anime community as a whole has unanimously agreed with all their hearts that School Days is one of if not THE worst anime ever created. I get it. I totally understand. However! There is a microcosm of the community that genuinely loves School Days. I'm proud to say that I'm part of that minority. That's right. I love this show. I'm incredibly passionate about it. Totally not sorry by the way. I've been told that I'm a menace for re-watching this one... and I'm fully prepared to lose all credibility, however superfluous it may be, but the jury's still out. I can't quite put my finger on it. Where the hell do I even begin?I first watched this show when I was like 16 and it really scared the fuck out of me back then. It's just the final scene paired with that truly hellish vocal track that left me genuinely terrified... But I was just so captivated by it. What the hell is wrong with me? This was supposed to be the worst anime ever. Why do I find it so enthralling?

Characters

Makoto Itou Our protagonist. He is initially introduced as a seemingly innocent young man in love. The audience relates to him instantly because we, as men at least. Have all been there. He sees his crush board the train and his opening monologue kicks off the following events. Over the course of the next 12 episodes. His true nature is revealed. Perverted. Selfish. Careless. He is a textbook example of how not to act as a person

Eventually due to Sekai not being able to let go of her feelings for him. Plus her inability to resist his advances. He chooses a path of indecisiveness, and fails to commit to anyone while completely giving in to his sexual desires. which ultimately leads to his death at the hands of Sekai

Kotonoha Katsura Kotonoha is the aforementioned crush of Makoto. They share the same train to get to school every morning. Unbeknownst to Kotonoha, Makoto is just content in admiring her from afar. It probably should have stayed that way honestly. Sweet. Quiet. Innocent. Kotonoha is blissfully unaware of the coming storm. She is emotionally fragile due to her sheltered upbringing. Sekai Saionji Sekai is introduced as Makoto’s classmate and shares a desk space with him. Early in the show they are portrayed as acquaintances. But the way She acts when she’s around Makoto suggests otherwise. She continues to harbor feelings while trying to get Makoto and Kotonoha together. Manipulative. Jealous. Indecisive.Setsuna Kiyoura The only member of the supporting cast that is worth mentioning is Setsuna. Introduced as Sekai’s best friend. Even though some of her actions are questionable. She maintains the most level head out of everyone. She's my favorite character in the show by far.

Story

Words can’t really describe the way this anime’s story is presented. The emotional impact it has. But I guess I’ll give it a shot. I've come to the conclusion that the execution of the music, coupled with the voice acting and art/animation. Make for quite the compelling watch. Also, random thought here. I don't know about you. But this anime makes flip phones seem cool as fuck. What's up with that? I guess its just a byproduct of the times.

Anyhow... Where most anime with a high school setting focuses on characters with flashy uniforms. Brightly colored hair, and personalities that are so “out there” it makes it hard to believe they could ever be real people. (Looking at you High School DXD) Which, funny story by the way! Was adapted by the same studio, TNK. The two anime even share the same character design lead haha. Fancy that! Oops SORRY! Sorry I’m getting off topic AGAIN. The way the characters behave in School Day is based on endless lies and deceitfulness. Which leads to a series of unfortunate misunderstandings So many of the interactions and choices made by the characters in School Days could have been avoided if everyone actually said what was on their minds. If Sekai wanted Makoto all to herself she should have just said so. But instead of being honest with her feelings she chose to "Help" Makoto try and win over Kotonoha. And then she has the gall to continue harboring those feelings and tell Makoto he can "practice" on her when he doesn't get what he wants out of Kotonoha. what the fuck? Also another problem I have with the writing is the bullying of Kotonoha. I understand the use of this certain plot device. In the context of the story its to assist in degrading Kotonoha's psyche and drive her insane. But I feel its taken too far.

I’m also convinced none of this would have ever happened if Makoto just sat in his room and played video games like a normal fucking teenager. NOW! Why in God's name was anyone in this show allowed to get away with anything. The rapid devolvement of the character's behavior and the compounding misunderstandings begs questions such as. Where are all the adults? Where's the common sense? That’s just it! Every character is just so devoid of ALL logic and reason. Everyone who watches this show and thinks. How could teenagers be this stupid? or this is unrealistic. But I believe it's a pretty accurate portrayal of how teenagers in real life get without proper guidance. This anime introduces so much rage, aggression, hate, malice, frustration. I could go on but I think you know what I'm trying to get at here. If you made it this far in the review… Congrats! To wrap things up, even with an adult perspective. I'm still unsure how to rate this. LET ME EXPLAIN. On one hand it's BAD, every aspect is AWFUL! BUT! Judging just by how it makes me feel, how damn good of a job it does. I have to rate it 10/10. I absolutely HATE that I love this show god dammit!
