This show is... something alright. I must say, I enjoyed the first few episodes with it seeming to be just another generic but fun overpowered guy at highschool isekai with a pretty decent magic system but then you progress further in and realise how much of a dumpster fire it becomes. But before I whine for the rest of the review about how bad this show is I wish to address the good points. As previously stated, I enjoyed the magic system and how the MC's knowledge of science from his previous life was used to make himself overpowered. It wasn't because he had some god's blessing or was just born more powerful but him just using knowledge was a nice concept. The animation is pretty solid with fight scenes actually being somewhat enjoyable. The comedy is rather a swing or miss depending on your tastes but I did laugh a few times and it is a tad funnier than the manga. Also, for how much they sexualise the high schoolers I'm surprised that they didn't have any sexualisation of lolis. I'm not sure if it's a compliment that the author isn't a complete degenerate or just how much my standards have been lowered by this anime but I digress. These are pretty much my only compliments for the anime.
Now then, to discuss the other aspects of this anime. The girls are literally only there for fanservice. Nothing else. I get it's an ecchi but so is My Dress Up Darling and that hasn't got half the fanservice that this does despite it having less censorship. The constant panty shots are annoying as you get them basically in any walking scene distracting you from the actual world it's set in. The fanservice also detracts from any semblance of drama. For example, there's actually a half decent scene that ends with the love interest almost crying but all the emotional tones of the scene are overshadowed by the fact that it was still just constant panty shots! I get that in a generic isekai you would expect a bunch of fanservice but even then most know when to tone it down. Even Seven Deadly Sins managed to do this! The show that has the MC constantly groping a girl managed to have better emotional scenes that Wise Man's Grandchild!
The romance is pretty bad as well. Sure, the MC is fine enough but the romance doesn't seem to have much substance in it. It's just pretty girl falls in love with guy who saved her once or twice without us seeing anything else happen. If you want to make a believable romance, show us some quiet moments between the two instead of just speeding along making us just believe that they fell in love overnight. I understand that this isn't a purely romance show so you can't have a proper semblance of a likeable romance in 12 episodes but you could at least focus on the characters and the relationships between them. (Edit: I take this back. You can have a likeable and well-written romance in a single season of an ecchi anime. Bakemonogatari showed me that.) A show that only focuses on plot and not on the characters themselves is a bad show no matter what.
The plot progresses so quickly that you don't get to care for the characters that much. They're just weak side characters who become stronger under the MC's tutelage. They're kinda cool in fight scenes but that's really it. If they all died I couldn't care less. In fact, if everyone died I wouldn't care less. That's how much time the show spends on fleshing the characters out. At least in a school setting there are a bunch of ways to make us like them but nope! We instead get to see the MC kill a demon and then become part of a national team of warriors and for some reason still attend school despite being better than every single person there. It's rather illogical even for an isekai.
To sum it up:
Plot- 5/10
Characters- 3/10
Animation- 7/10
Everthing else- 2/10
This isn't much of a review and instead a rather a poor assembled rant but I just cannot stress how bad this show was.
