Mushoku Tensei, or jobless reincarnation is something I truly believe to be a masterpiece of animation.
I was first introduced to the show by anime youtube Gigguk who was constantly ranting about how it had been robbed of anime of the year. After trusting what he said on odd taxi I was reluctant to test this theory.
I'm glad I did.
Jobless reincarnation is not normally what anyone would expect of that typical isekai you get at least 6 of in every season. Its first abnormality is the main character we are not greated with that of a handsome blonde or black-haired fit male. Instead, we see a grotesque, perverted and obese man spending his days in his room. We even see him skip what appears to be a relative's funeral so he could watch cornhub. This introduction to the character we watch grow was an awful one, I'm sure it put many off, including myself. But eventually, after being kicked out he dies trying to rescue a child and is reborn as a baby in a different fantasy world.

New body, new beginnings. He decides to live a life different to his old one, instead of cowering in fear. He decides to try and master magic at a young age and be closer to his parents as penance for neglecting his original.
The storytelling from this point is impeccable, not only the animation and the pacing but just the story, and its developments. Everything keeps you on edge with plenty of action and aspects of romance. It truly is a masterpiece in all its glory. There is also the art of character development portrayed in Mushoku Tensei. Seeing Rudeus(mc) grow from that obese cowardly man we saw die, into a new boy who despite still imperfections, is slowly becoming a better person. With friends and family who deeply care about him.
Let me also briefly talk about the animation because it is also stunning, Animated by studio bind 2021 into two cours. Mashoku tensei has got some of the most beautiful animation I've witnessed since fate but to me, it doesn't seem like budget. All the scenes seem to have the animator's hearts poured into making the most beautiful world they can create. And it was a true love letter to anime in general. These two scenes (/\ \/) have been talked about a lot in the community and honestly, this quality is kept throughout.I also want to mention if you haven't already watched this anime, there are multiple sex scenes littered throughout especially one that caught me extremely off guard in the first half of the first season.
Despite its seeming acceleration from the pack in terms of quality and storytelling I really don't hear a lot of people talk about it but one thing I can say is this is definitely on my top list of all time and I imagine it will stay there for a long time to come. I really recommend to lovers of all anime types but especially isekai fans who have been fed the same plot dressed differently for years on end.
