I am proud to be writing one of the first reviews on the Spy X Family anime. >:D
((some untagged spoilers here !!)
The Spy Family anime has enjoyed incredible popularity, being the #1 highest rated anime in 2022, #12 highest rated of all time, and #2 most popular anime in 2022 (after Attack on Titan). From the first episode(s)!!
It's unquestionably sweeping the nation, and Japan too. Why? Here is my unbiased review on it.
The first part of the show's description fits it really well: "Everyone has a part of themselves they cannot show to anyone else." The Family is formed not by the usual ways, but by secret identities. And that's pretty cool. Each of the 3 members has a different reason to join this pretend family, without suspecting any of the others.
The art style is not bad, and the CGI animation is not bad.
From the first episode, the show is funny at times, and admittedly, did make me laugh. The humor is cutesy; deadpan, or slapstick, and dramatic.
The pacing is pretty good, and Episode 5 is filler. Episode 2 better than 1, and Ep 4 is better than everything before it. Ep 10 is amazing xD
Eventually, of course. Romantic development is given between Loid Forger and Yor Forger. It's really fun, being a fake-family-turned-real type thing. The appeal is added to by the ruthlessness of both of them when it comes to their goals. An early scene
I can't say the political situation between Westalis and Ostania was captivating, but that's the show's setting.
Here's a little Spy Family history, which also tells the author's opinion on his own works and Spy Family.
I'm not going to rate this anime as an adaptation, because I haven't read the manga (yet?). But I hear that it is a really good adaptation of it.
The show will just make ya smile, though.
The op is ok-ish, kinda cringe, and nothing as good as Shikimori's OP (Shikimori is another show airing at the same time as SxF, and it's much worse). The ed is good. Credit to the SxF ost, though. It reflects the scenes well, whether it's the action scenes if the beginning, or the nursery-like scenes of the Eden classes, later on.
At one point Yor instructs Anya how to and when she may fight. Anya is a perceptive lil girl, and she takes what both her parents say to heart. My favorite part of the show perhaps is the few small moments when Anya recalls Yor's instructions at critical moment :D that was great. Yor can have the same expression as Anya at times xD
(As a side note, Yor's Japanese voice actor is perfect for her.
Note:
He can be very nice; a caring and sweet father. Can be a pushover at times, but is also very strong and does whatever needs to be done.
The old seamstress lady is pretty cool, too.

A little girl who likes peanuts and hot cocoa, her telepath power wraps everything in the show together, and her mysterious dark backstory is untold, as of yet. Her character is carried at times by her cuteness.
