All the hype is about... very simply... an entertaining show.
The show has a wacky premise where a spy needs to infiltrate a school to get close to one of the country's general to stop a war. In order to do this he assembles a pretend family and enrolls his adopted daughter into the school so she could be friends with the son of the said general.
The 'fake' family come together in a really endearing way where they all rely on each other not only for the 'mission' but literally for each other. The father figure of the 'fake' family despite initially making up this family for his mission seems to really care about them to the point of endangering the mission to protect their honor.
Character dynamics aside the comedy is on point on every episode. Each episode have a different challenge where the family needs to accomplish in order to get closer to the true mission objective: to get in contact with the general. Absurd scenarios range from capturing a penguin to simply a game of dodgeball.
Speaking of characters Anya the child of the 'fake family' is just great, she is the world to me. She is definitely the main hook of this show and the creators definitely understands this. So they really give her a lot of screen time and really put in the effort to sell her charm.
B-But Anya is just cutesy -wiutsy fan service...

Yes And I shamelessly and unapologetically love it.
I have complimented the characters and the comedy of this series which I believe makes for a killer combination. The endearing characters and their dynamic makes up the bread and the cute and hilarious slapstick makes up the butter.
The tags on Spy Family is absolutely clear and on point:
Action, Comedy, Slice of life, Supernatural
And based on these tags alone I personally think it is absolute clear that Spy Family is not meant to be taken seriously. If you really want to be a stickler you can judge the logic of the premise, the questionable decisions of the main protagonists, the fact that many of their elaborate stunts do not arouse suspicion from the authorities or from each other... or why Anya is allowed to have cat ear accessories in such a prestigious school?
I will be honest I don't care, its a 2D Japanese Comedy Cartoon with a cute pink haired girl.
The music really compliments the 'spy' theme of the show. The OP is an absolute banger which really sells the absurdity of the premise of the show. The ED is a really calming tune which really reminds me of what a lovable group of misfits this family turn out to be.
I really love Spy Family and anyone with a sense of humor and love feel good shows will definitely feel the same. Definitely recommend. :)
