Noblesse is my second Crunchyroll Original, my first being God of Highschool, but I have yet to finish that one. Unfortunately, this one did not hit the mark as well as other Webtoon Crunchyroll hybrids that. for some reason, appeared around 2019-2020. It sucks because I expected this one to be at LEAST decent with its source material on Webtoon, I haven't read the entire Webtoon myself, but I can see the glaring issue and that's putting 100 chapters into a 12 episode series, it's just so fucking rushed and it can get any fellow reader pissed off. That's the main issue these Webtoon anime keep getting at and don't get me started on Crunchyroll Originals, I'm looking at you High Guardian Spice!! This anime just wore me out, so let's get on with the review.
Animation: The animation seems pretty generic. It isn't super bad, but with a concept about vampires I expected it to be more magical or at least above average animation. Castlevania is a big example of this or the newest additions being Vanitas and Call of the Night. There is really nothing to add, but it just looks bland and generic ESPECIALLY the isekai looking powers that this has to offer, Seriously, the purple goop they put for one of the powers made me sigh in disappointment. The end credits have some nice art, but it is on the background and that's basically it. The character designs are fine, but they looked much more better, stylized, and detailed in the Webtoon. All in all, I have not much to say about the animation, it doesn't really open my eyes like the recent anime I have been watching, Vinland Saga.
Story: Like I said, the story is pretty rushed and kind of shit because they didn't take the time and effort they needed to make the watcher captivated by their vampire world. The Webtoon has 500 chapters, yet they tried shoving it in for only 12 episodes, which is really bad to say the least. Characters pop out of nowhere, the plot is all over the place, character interactions doesn't seem natural, powers that just happen out of nowhere, it's just a mess. Most episodes have a formula and you can catch it faster than a Phineas and Ferb episode. Each episode is the same thing, except villain did this and is bad and each time is just new. It's just nothing new each episode, Raizel goes to school in the beginning with his friends every episode, goes talk with other characters, villain pops up, they die or might come back after a "riveting" battle, they talk again in the couch, some dumb cliffhanger then boom episode over. It happens EVERY. FUCKING. EPISODE. It's just so tiring to watch this snore fest. My sister, the person who wanted to watch this one with me (she's a vampire fanatic) SLEPT THROUGH THE ENTIRE BINGE AFTER EPISODE 3. If this doesn't tell you something about how incompetent some studios are at handling adaptions then I don't know what will to be honest.
Characters: I will say that the characters are what bumped up the rating a bit. Some characters are actually entertaining to watch, sure it doesn't entirely help that their dialogue is weird and rushed, but they seem to be more charming than I thought. Raizel is a carbon copy of any muted edgy character in anime, but his actions seem different than what he appears, shame that they didn't touch that part of him in the anime, but I certainly will read it on the Webtoon. Then we have the badass Seira, she's one of my favorite female edgy characters, but it is still a shame that they didn't give them character development any further. Other characters are not so fantastic to me, but they do deliver well in a dry anime like this one. Some of the comedy is hit or miss, but it did get a chuckle out of me a little sometimes. I honestly don't feel intimidation from the villains Noblesse offers, maybe the Webtoon will, but sure as hell not this one. Most villains are one sided or generic, but I do know there is way more intimidating ones like, I will say it again, Webtoon.
Voice acting, Soundtrack, etc.: The voice acting seemed fine to me, they were just doing their jobs while they had nothing to work with but stiff and rushed dialogue. The soundtrack didn't stick out to me either, the only one being the end credits song which is pretty good not gonna lie. What bothers me most is the Webtoon is made and is set in South Korea, while the anime is set in Japan. That was another big problem I had with other Webtoon Manhwa works like God of High School, why do they keep changing the setting? Doesn't South Korea have animation studios as well? Or is it because South Korean anime aren't as popular as Japan is. Manhwas are getting more popular by the day, but are getting adapted by a completely different country and language. I don't know, that just seems weird to me. I might finish God of High School after this, but after the wedding episode, I felt more and more less obligated to finish it which is why my dedication to finishing Noblesse was such a slog. A complete boring mess that slanders its source material entirely. If you like it, that's okay, don't let my opinion let you change yours. Anyways, I'll see you guys in the next review, peace. (for some reason my text turned out like this after my intro and I tried to edit it out, but couldn't, so don't mind it)
