Before being reincarnated, the main character was a 34-year-old shut-in.
However one day, he got run over by a truck when he tried saving a few people. But rather than permanently dying as he expected, he instead got reincarnated into Rudeus Greyrat.
Slowly, he gets accustomed to his new world, and even learns a bit of magic.
Now, you might think that this is just another flawless OP protagonist waiting to happen, but nope. Rudeus is as flawed as any average human being.
The trauma from his past life has carried over, and he’s scared of coming out of his house (he hasn’t left it since he was born at this point). But with the support of his parents and the help of his tutor, he manages to get rid of this trauma.
He discovers a brand new world full of beauty and misery waiting for him.
Without going into too much detail and ranting, this story is one of growing up as a person.
The way the characters are written makes it seem like they’re actually alive. Everyone has a place in the world, and everything falls in place even without the protagonist interfering.
In most isekai stories, the protagonist is the pillar of the world. They keep the world alive from some dangerous, world-ending event and earn the title of Hero.
Well, not in Mushoku Tensei. If you take away Rudeus, Eris, and other people from Rudeus’s friend circle, the world just keeps going, and it won’t end without their presence.
And most importantly, every single character has a rich personality and reasons for what they do. As the story progresses, the characters mentally grow up too. I don’t think there’s a single character you could call “generic.”

Studio Bind — the studio behind this anime was created for the sole purpose of animating Mushoku Tensei. You could say it’s a passion project, and it really tells.

There’s also a lot of attention to detail which many other series lack. It shows that they’re serious about their work and do their research. Simply put, it isn’t just a one off cash grab — Noticed by Dreamarche on Reddit
Ironically enough, when this started airing I avoided it because I thought it would suck simply because of the title. "Jobless Reincarnation." Like what, will I watch a jobless guy getting hoes in another world?
Heh, I couldn't be further from the truth. Here we are today with Mushoku Tensei being my favorite anime.
(Also apologies for potentially using gifs/pictures from the 2nd cour. But considering they're the same season divided, I think it's good.)
For me, this is easily 10/10.
Can't wait for the 2nd Season to see the world grow.
