From a journey of a boy and his younger brother desperately trying to get to feel their mother's warmth again to the same brothers desperately trying to get their body back, BUT without using no one (but themselves) as a pawn. That's what makes them special.
Winry really kept Edward and Alphonse moving forward, she acted as the fuel for them to forward. She along with Pinako and of course the teacher (Izumi Curtis) became the family that they once have lost.
SPOILER ALERT
Hohenheim has been an interesting figure throughout the shows run, the man who was a living Philosopher's Stone. it's amazing how far his character has come. From knowing a "cold hearted 'father'" who didn't give a damn about his family, to someone who loves his family and the world that he would do anything to save them. His empathy for people is unmatched. He certainly became my favorite.
Greed is a manifestation of Homunculus's (Dwarf) greed, but he overcame the said "greed" by getting to experience what he always wanted, to have friends.
All of the Homunculus carried within them emotions other than the father's (the Dwarf) They have their own emotions and needs as any other, as it is quite apparent.
Father's character is fascinating, From Being the Dwarf in the Flask trying to be free and gain knowledge about the world to dying while trying to do the impossible. To throw away his humanity to be "the perfect being", He was made from Hoenheim's blood, he overlooked the undeniable fact that he was human (partially). To hide his underlying insecurities, he split his emotions up to the individuals we know as 7 Deadly Sins (Envy, Gluttony, Greed, Lust, Pride, Sloth, and Wrath) And still it did not erase his humanity, he still felt emotions he never could've gotten rid of his regret to his very demise. Homunculus were far from a perfect being. They were nothing but imperfection. They were supposed to be all-time obedient to their father but Greed proved it wrong, by having his own will and path different from his 'father". Father (Dwarf) made the "family" to satisfy his underlying need for family. Which was nothing but just a facade.
It's quite poetic.
Truly a story about Brotherhood, even the *correct answer" was about choosing friends over alchemy. And as they say All is One, and in turn One is All. It truly comes full circle.
The side characters really were the backbone of the show, as much as they might have seemed useless in the fight yet not a single one of them were 'useless', everyone got involved, helped and became the fuel to the fire for our heroes.
A chilling dark theme hid by the playful and comedic aspect of the show, which I liked and at times it became somewhat annoying.
Fullmetal Alchemist is no perfect show, but it did it's best to explore the themes it had presented. There is little i can say bad about the show.
It has an amazing cast of characters who were unique in their own way, Amazing world building, engaging fights and to top it all off, an amazing story.
Thank you Hiromu Arakawa for such an experience.
