The Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, learn alchemy's iron law the hard way: nothing can be created without something of equal value lost. The forbidden ritual they attempt to bring their dead mother back costs Edward his leg and Alphonse his entire body. Edward saves his brother's soul by binding it to a suit of armor — at the cost of his own arm. Years later, with mechanical limbs and a state-alchemist license, the brothers hunt for the Philosopher's Stone, a relic that might restore what they lost, and find a national conspiracy with the Stone at its center.
