There is really nothing special about the writing of bubble. It's a basically a stylized version of the little mermaid. Most will agree it is just boy meets girl with extra steps.

There is definitely an inherit simplicity in the plot progression from a typical introduction, rising action and climax. The fact that it's world building and characters are so underdeveloped is not a sign of poor writing in my opinion but of design. What I think the writer wants the audience to focus on is the beautiful fantasy that is presented rather than a emotionally gripping story or narrative. I felt no attachment whatsoever to the characters but I am definitely at awe looking at their exploits and feats in the world they reside in.
What I enjoyed about the film is definitely little to do with the writing as I am unsure on whether its vague expositions is on purpose or due to unskilled writing. That is irrelevant to my viewing experience.

What is the guy watering flowers for? They just look beautiful
What is the deal with the parkour? It is cool and engaging.
What is the deal with the bubbles? It looks absolutely breathtaking.
The beautiful rendered backgrounds of the world, the dynamic movements of the parkour, visual treats for my eyes. And not to mention an absolute beautiful soundtrack playing over them all the time, always animated in accordance with the music.
Yes really it has really generic writing. but I believe in diversity of art and though the art of writing is subpar the film scores in the other departments. The visual art, the animation art, the directional art, these are also a part of art which I value as much as the art of writing.
At the end of the day, Bubble does not pass in its narrative beauty. But excels in its cinematic beauty. I recommend at least watching it with the lights off to appreciate this film.
