I had mixed feeling about the release of film red because we haven’t seen shanks in the anime since marine ford and we couldn’t see Haki in the post time skip let alone have a grasp on the abilities Haki offers so I was really looking out for new Haki we haven’t seen yet. In the case of Uta she sort of inserted herself into Luffy’s backstory which was kinda a kick in the balls with the build-up of the three brother’s story. It’s setup in a way that we’re supposed care about this relationship between them (Luffy and uta) and in the canon, shanks doesn’t have a daughter so when Luffy blurts out to his crew uta is shank’s daughter so naturally I’m sure the straw hats are going to have a bar of it soon Luffy is almost reaching the level of two-piece theorist.
it's a unique perspective coming from the civilians who don’t have a hero to save them and the justice system that’s supposed to protect them has failed them we’ve seen the same kind of thing on fish man island and Wano when no one is stepping in who do they believe in. Uta takes it upon herself to lift the people’s spirits and be a beacon of hope for everyone through her music. Every song was a banger and with each song we got more insight into uta’s character instead of giving us a bunch flashbacks. Through getting to know her better in this movie I liked her a lot more as were shown the POV of uta and her audience.
the action scenes were really fast everything felt sped up which makes sense with the switching between characters in reality and in uta’s world plus the flashbacks not to mention we don’t really have a main villain to go up against just footer punching bags until the end. The movie is really pretty in conjunction with the changing of art styles to convey uta’s emotions. The format changes a few times uta may be 2d one minute and then an mmd the next with noodle arms. The was scene in the film where uta’s being broadcasted in a bubble literally all I could think of was Mr Meeseeks she looked so goofy my immersion was ruined like what is that.
I thoroughly enjoyed the movie it was the first time I’ve seen an anime movie on the big screen One piece film red is definitely special there’s no movie like it I know a lot of people didn’t like all the singing but for me hearing these songs again bring me back to when I saw the film it’s like magic watching the movie unfold before me for the first time in my memories a truly unforgettable watch dare I say a masterpiece.
note: The cinema was empty so I got a seat in like the middle front row having my ears blasted excuse me while I fill the word count. the was cute with funny moments between the supporting cast even if you have never seen or read one piece you would still enjoy this movie I went with my older sister who knows absolutely nothing about one piece it made the movie even more enjoyable as I imagined watching the movie without any knowledge of the characters and the one piece world. My favourite question was when shanks showed up on screen "is shanks Luffy's dad?"
