What a Disappointment
Where do i even begin, when i first saw the title of this anime i was hopeful, as a gamer myself i thought id found an anime that would be fun to enjoy and relatable to experiences as a gamer. Instead what i was given was a 12 episode disappointment which didn't even seem to have much about gaming in it at all, if anything its a romantic comedy with a occasional gaming reference mixed in, the title feels like a lie at this point.
Lets address the protagonist first, Keita is a very unlikeable protagonist for a few reasons, for one he's just plain stupid sometimes and seems to not understand anything which is part of what leads to the many misunderstandings in this series. One thing i will agree with him on is how games are to be enjoyed regardless of how you enjoy them however that message is short lived because of all the supposed relationship drama Keita has with all the other characters.
Tendou was at first the most relatable for me as a competitive gamer however that's short lived as she begins a huge decent into the bumbling and unlikable mess she is at the end, for one no one falls in love that fast regardless of what someone says and for another i find it mental that any of the 3 girls would find Keita even tolerable to be around considering his personality and behaviour not to mention his obsession with dating simulators which lets be honest is just plain creepy and he shows no intent to hide in front of them.
However the key thing that aggravates me about this is how the games are mentioned at the beginning and then the focus shifts on the relationship drama between the 5 main characters for the next 6 episodes before gaming is mentioned properly in the anime again, i mean the name of the anime is 'Gamers' with that being the title you would expect gaming to be the main focus and from the first 2 episodes it made me think that the show would lead up to Keita being trained from a newbie into a professional player and maybe even enter a tournament but instead my dreams were crushed when i realised the show was just 1 big love triangle instead.
A real key issue that lasts throughout the entire anime is the dubious implications between Amano and Aguri as there are several displays that they could have been more then just friends and of course the entire cast notices this but yet for some strange reason this is never addressed properly and somehow her boyfriend goes from paranoid to just rolling with it despite no explanation or closure.
After you slog your way through 11 episodes of pure rubbish, the show leads your to believe that just maybe the love triangle will be resolved in episode 12 but nope you would be completely goddamn wrong instead what we got was mess that well as another reviewer called it resembles a DLC rather then a finale as instead it has the cast going on a trip without any explanation and all of sudden they all get along without any resolution to the various plots and side stories that have occurred throughout the anime. So not only was this a waste of my time as it didn't even resemble its own title but its ending was just as unfinished at Metal Gear V's but at least in MGV's case the main developer was unfairly fired before he could finish the game whereas this anime is out supposed finished product.
