GTO
Before becoming Great Teacher Onizuka, Eikichi was a man who lived for nothing. He had no goal to reach but that didn’t stop him from driving forward. Onizuka is a rider. No matter how many times he falls, he’ll still get up and continue moving forward. As we know from chapter one, he has always wanted to be great, to reach a certain point of greatness but he never knew what path to take. That’s where teaching appeared. Onizuka started teaching for very..personal reasons but it turned into his purpose. Teaching made him The great Onizuka. Helping others and saving lives of kids is an amazing feeling isn’t it? In a society where the relationship between teachers and students is simple power battle, onizuka was a light. Being someone’s life gave him a purpose, he was no longer alone on his journey to greatness. He now had a path he knew he wanted to follow and a goal he wanted to reach. No matter how hard he was hit, he stood up. Fought injustice without the need of pretending to be superior, he didn’t need power battle in order to reach his goals, he just needed to he a decent person. Onizuka inspired me a lot in many ways. Constantly moving forward to reach greatness is incredible to me. As a person who’s graduating soon, reading GTO gave me courage to move forward without a doubt. Gave me an opportunity to witness ideology crash between a young teacher and older generation. The characters were outstanding and incredibly realistic, even tho their characteristics were exaggerated (for example a kid with 200iq and a teenager who can easily hack websites)
"You're still a rider dude, you just took another fall. So peel out, ride.. open 'er up, Rikichi...full throttle, whenever; wherever; right to the end. That's your policy right?"
"Full-speed forward, your kids riding the rear Along that great road with no finish line”. Continuing riding even after losing countless times.. it’s admirable isn’t it? Seeing those broken teenagers smile after receiving a kind treatment from their silly teacher melts my heart and makes me smile. “You don’t have to be pedigree to be great”. Greatness isn’t something materialistic, it’s quite the opposite actually. Being great means having an ability to change someone’s heart. It’s the ability to help people move forward. Great people are capable of lifting mountains and doing what we believe is impossible. Onizuka is indeed the greatZ The great teacher and what’s more important, a great person
