Bitter sweet ending for the Joestars
It has been an incredible journey but all good things must come to an end. I will be doing a review on the whole anime separately but I want to get my thoughts out about part 6 while it is fresh on my mind
The story, the arc, the plot it was GOOD, would I say it was the best we have had? No, would I say it was mediocre? Nope, it was just good and fine. Pucci being the main antagonist one of Dio loyal followers, we see what Dio meant to Pucci and the dynamic and their relationship, Pucci did this all for Dio to attain "heaven" honestly quite trippy and odd seeing as that was Dio main goal just honestly never thought he wanted to reset the universe so everyone knew their fate. Nonetheless it was a good backstory for Pucci and his reason for beating the hell out of our protagonists. Now Jolyne Cujoh where do I start, THANK GOD we good an amazing, smart female protagonist in this JoJo universe, Araki did a great thing with her, was she overpowered? No, Do I wish she was a bit more stronger like prime Jotaro in p3? Yes I do, but granted Star Platinum is on another level and Jotaro has had more experience than Jolyne in fighting and using his stand. But still Jolyne and Stone Ocean was a great character and she had a cool stand with a useful ability. I was so grateful we got a female lead character after the previous males one it makes for an intriguing and interesting story. Should also note I did not read the manga prior to this.
Supporting cast, the cast around Jolyne was an interesting one, Ermes with her stand "Kiss", Emporio with his stand "Burning down the house", Anasui with "Diver Down" and while these 2 were not there at the end they were still a pivotal part of the support cast Weather Report with his stand "Heavy Weather" and F.F with the stand "Foo Fighters" This cast is good in terms of the other parts it was not the best, the cast was not used like part 3,4 or 5 we did not get a good feel for the characters and there backstories ultimately to follow up part 5 support cast it was a tough job so I will give the benefit of the doubt here. More on the supporting cast, I wish there was a bit more spotlight on them like we had in part 3, 4 and 5, Part 5, a bit more action and back story with each one, though I enjoyed how every personality was different though it wasn't out there and top tier personalities it was not stale and boring either. Now I wouldn't say Im a massive enjoyer of romantic storylines and plots or a massive enjoyer of the cute awesome bonding moments between characters, however maybe this one of my gripes but JOLYNE DID NOT GET ENOUGH MOMENTS WITH JOTARO! NOR DID SHE GET A GREAT ROMANTIC PLOT WITH ANASUI! I would have LIKED it if we could have seen a fully on Jotaro and Jolyne, father and daughter moment outside of the end game part where Anasui asks for her hand in marriage, again I would have liked to have seen some sort of romance flare up a bit more between them, I think it could've added a bit more personality to Anasui and Jolyne.
Actual Storyline and ending, Start off with the storylines and the way it all developed, It started out strong with Jolyne in prison that was all set up by Pucci, we dove straight into the action wasted no time in getting to fighting and Jolyne unlocking her stand. Was it rushed with her ability to fight so well? Maybe, though I am not mad at it as we know Jolyne is Jotaro daughter and it's as if the Joestar family has an innate ability to fight. Do I think the storylines were rushed? Possibly, a lot of action and stand users there was always something going on and we could never fully grasp when the characters were staring death in the face, like I said with character development and personalities this is something we never got to see a lot. We do encounter Dio son's who were taken out incredibly quickly and there was not much else to it, Dio son's were a let down honestly I feel like as if it was all just filler in the end, great stand abilities they had but in the end disappointing story line there. Pucci and Weather Report storyline, my oh my maybe one of the better storylines if not the best, we learn about Pucci and his brother Weather report (shocking) we understand why Pucci did what he did to his brother and we learn why Pucci turned into this evil villain. This was a storyline I could behind, though again we did not get a good idea of weather report personality even after his memories returned it still made for a good story. The fight with Pucci was great for such an overpowered stand "Heavy Weather" I do wish he put up more of a fight. The ending ahhh man, bitter sweet, that's all I gotta say. Yes Pucci did not achieve heaven, and yes essentially the joestar family is GONE. I would still consider this a small victory to the joestars hear me out. It finally put to an end Dio and his followers... That is what makes it a small victory for me! Essentially it was a stale mate no winners but very big losers. I can understand from some perspectives people are unhappy we did not get a classic happy ending like we did in part 3, 4 and 5 but knowing that Emporio survives and the souls of everyone else live on is wonderful to see. I guess biggest question is do we get a series in the universe where Emporio survived and the souls of the others live on? Personally I would like that. More importantly Giorno Giovanna no longer exists biggest bummer to me honestly.
Fighting and animation, The fights again I do hate comparing part 6 to the rest but we got to right? Jolyne is a smart fighter unlike Jotaro she uses her wits and brain to fight over brute strength, same thing Anasui and Ermes. That is what makes me enjoy the series a lot more, Jolyne was a smart tactical fighter much like Giorno, As I said maybe her fighting development was rushed a bit she came out the gates already an incredible fighter. The fights were interesting especially against Pucci maybe one of the better fights even though they were completely outmatched she still made it very interesting until the very end. Now animation I don't know how I feel, I don'y enjoy critiquing animation as I do understand how hard it is to create something with a deadline looming over your head and it is not like we all own an animation studio right?!?! The animation was GREAT, yes there were times were the CGI made the hand drawings look terrible and yes there were times were it just looked out right sloppy but I mean it was still pretty good and consistent.
Opening and Ending and fight songs, ah my favourite the opening and ending. JoJo has always caught my eye with the opening and ending every single part, even the to be continued song, I LOVE IT. I have no personal grievance with it, the end music especially wow, using western world songs has the ending to every episode, GOT ME HOOKED. I'm more of a rap fanatic but I can appreciate a good song. The fight songs? Yeah Giorno obviously takes that with Giorno theme no doubt. but Jolyne might be my 2nd fave fight song.
Final thoughts and Dislikes
Final thoughts are I recommend this series very much, Id 100% rewatch if i needed a comfort anime to watch. The opening and ending have a set a high standard and expectation for me the use of the western world music for me has blown my mind. Soundtrack is still awesome as ever, animation great I would not say it was horrible like others, storyline and plot done well. Dislikes? I can't say I have any major dislikes outside the few negatives I mentioned, I wish in the future we can see our Stone Ocean alts again.
