Some series are so easy to explain why it is enjoyable that it would be impossible to meet the word count for a review here
_And I can tell you why I gave it a 7/10 its literally just perverted, trashy fun. What else is there to say? Watch the uncensored version for best experience_ (OBVIOUSLY ONLY IF YOU ARE OVER 18)
Some series are difficult to explain why I love so much because it transcends traditional talking points about plot, visuals and music.
Then we have this:
Which lies somewhere in the middle of the spectrum of what I was describing above.
And I came into this series expecting the former: being a CGDCT with a goofy non-nonsensical premise. I expected this to be one of those turn your brain off and laugh at the goofy anime characters getting themselves into dumb situations and drama type of show. And initially for the most part that was the case. It presented itself in an unrealistic pastel wonderland-like aesthetic with extremely cutified 2D anime girls. And it was definitely a really cute and aesthetically pleasing anime to watch with cartoonishly cute characters in an unnaturally bubbly and bright world. This aspect of the show’s nature makes it really for me to lower my suspension of disbelief at the goofy premise that is presented.

And terms of animation I find it pretty impressive not in terms of bombastic movement but in its subtle character movements based on their emotions and reactions. Whether they are feeling curious, feeling shy, feeling happy, feeling perplexed, etc... the animation really does a great job and those fine details ie: tilting of the head, leaning closer, nervous finger movements, etc. This attention to detail really gives life to these cartoony characters.

I did not expect anything profound or of quality when it comes to its writing and was ready to just brush off the goofy premise and just enjoy it as a cartoon about a guy getting in awkward situations in a girl's body. Because seriously thinking about it is definitely a problematic premise and I know many people have a problem with it: A psychopath of a scientist changes the gender of her sibling without his consent. This is actually a pretty fucked up thing that has happened. But because of its cartoony art style to the nonchalant and playful reaction of the characters I really did not read much into it and really treat it like a goofy cartoon. And just a side note: I don't think there is anything controversial about the portrayal of gender in this anime the same way I don’t think there is anything controversial about lesbian ponies in My Little Pony.
The story follows a useless neet Mahiro just wasting away his time at home while his younger sister takes care of him. What happens next I am sure you know... he gets turned into a girl and his sister tries to get him to enjoy being a girl. For whatever reason Mahiro just quickly accepted his fate as a girl, maybe he has given up on life, maybe he has nothing else to lose and honestly it really seemed like it. The story really subtly shows that he has never been happy for a very long time and time and time again he questions if this new change is worse or even better than what life he was living before. This dilemma is made clear as the story progressed as his entire world changes as he comes to appreciate his new normal and learns what it means to be in the shoes of the opposite sex. His sister Mihari too even though being the psychopath scientist she was, did not do this to him with malice or intent to harm, there were good intentions which shows as the series progress. And honestly, him just wasting away in his room for years and leeching off his younger sister, I think he sorta deserves to become a test subject to return the favour somehow.
The voice acting performance for Mahiro is one of the most impressive ones I have experienced in recent memory. She really captures the personality of Mahiro being this bitter man disgruntled by his sister yet meek and shy when it comes to strangers outside his house like the shut-in neet he is. When Mahiro felt flustered, panicked, and excited I definitely felt it in the voice acting. And really this is hard to describe, but Mahiro absolutely sounds like a guy stuck in a girl's body thanks to the performance of the talented VA Marika Kouno.
Finally, the OP and ED are also one of the most impressive ones I have seen in a while being true to the series' goofy nature and also bringing out such a fun energy that I definitely never want to skip. Especially the OP.
In conclusion, it was pretty good. I like how cute and funny it was but still manage to subtly insert a wholesome character journey about self-discovery and opening up to new people. Definitely has its sus moments ngl but I don’t think they ever crossed the line and they were mainly played out for the sake of comedy.
