TRIGGER WARNING: SEXUAL ASSAULT
Skeleton Knight in Another World is another shitty Overlord clone with an added creep factor. All of the villains are sadistic rapists and murderers. From the first minute to the last episode, the excessive sexual assault scenes are drawn like sexy fanservice and framed as titillation for men. It's disgusting, awful, and uncomfortable to watch because it is grotesquely fetishistic and does nothing but remind you the creators don't care about victims. Anime is infamous for sexualizing rape to appeal to the lowest common denominator rather than portraying it as it is; a brutal life-altering crime.
"But it's entertainment" no, it's creepy, and it's lazy writing. Every female character (even the ones with swords) is victimized or threatened with sexual assault. The vast majority of the plot is repetitively spent rescuing enslaved elf girls wearing nothing but tattered clothes. Filling the whole anime is its constant glorification of sex as violence. The way they dehumanize everyone except for the dull protagonist gives the impression that no one else matters.
Arc is another average isekai hero who leads the generic plot, which is just one predictable encounter after another. He is merely a collection of isekai cliches posing as a hero; a gamer trapped in his favorite role-playing game, girls fall in love with him for no reason, he is dense as a boulder, overpowered, and immortal. At least I can say that he's not a pervert. When his busty companion inevitably attempts jumping his bones (literally), he rejects her. This is not a harem despite how many boobs throw themselves at Arc, but his utter lack of personality traits makes him the perfect vehicle for a sexually frustrated viewer to live vicariously through.
Despite his unusual appearance, he's such a lifeless protagonist. Any attempts at tongue-in-cheek jokes fall flat. Rather than delivering exposition through wordy internal monologues alone, he speaks aloud in his childish voice, confusing everyone around him, then quickly returning to his gritty mercenary voice. They copied this gag from Overlord, and it's never funny. The entire script is devoid of originality; it prioritizes tensionless fight scenes and fanservice over establishing backstories, developing its vapid characters, or building its unimaginative world.
You can predict the outcome of every fight because they only exist to show how 'cool' the skeleton knight is. They even fail at that simple goal because the art is mediocre, and the animation is as dynamic as a slide show. Aside from Arc, the character designs are indistinguishable from other copy-pasted isekai fodder. Arc undermines the few unique action scenes by intruding to explain concepts we can witness and sort ourselves. We can't be trusted to see wolves attacking Arc using clones because we are simply too idiotic, or at least the creators think their audience is mindless.
Any typical fanservice is overwhelmed by viscerally misogynist moments of fetishized violence. The frame lingers on women's cut-up bodies, torture, and sadistic punishments for no reason other than for your enjoyment. It ogles the women as they suffer and expects you to like it. That is the anime's real money maker. Its appeal has nothing to do with a "Skelton Knight in Another World" because the superficial title is nothing but marketing bait. I can understand the morbid curiosity about a trainwreck as vile as this one, but there is no pay-off. Only misery.
