This show completely turns the romance genre on its head. If you have seen school days or domestic girlfriend, apparently it draws comparisons to those two shows but I won't bother with that given I haven't seen either. This show is the opposite of typical anime romances with toxic characters and a sickening plot. I'll try to avoid spoilers but this show had the potential to be a 9 or 10 almost. The soundtrack is absolutely masterful, great opening, and the ending "heikousen" is brilliant. The art mimics that of the manga with manga panels being substituted for the full screen at times. The animation is solid and visuals fit the theme and are captivating. The plot is overly exaggerated for sure at times but there was a profound style of realism to the show which I have never seen in romance anime which made it very captivating. There is also lesbian and bi-stuff but that character gets poorly developed and wasn't great IMO. Mugi, the male MC was kind of wasted in the end IMO. as for the two teacher love interests, their story was the greatest for their character development and change of pace in character personality. Some things defo didn't make sense though and the positive developments mainly happen towards the end in the last two episodes after a beatdown in the first 10. If you think the ending is good, consider reading Scum's Wish Decor (you can find it on mangajar), if you thought it was bad, definitely read decor. I feel that certain things started to really improve toward the end but they needed more development and time was wasted on necessary things in the first 10 episodes although I liked Hanabi and akane's drama, thought it displayed the worst of human nature in romance, why revenge fails, and who she was up against. akane's development was abrupt and sudden and it didn't give great closure but I liked it still. I enjoyed the dynamic. I think that we needed more of the male teacher, he brought a nice change of pace to a narcissistic cast and he wasn't displayed too much until the end. Mild incest asw which I hated and the teacher-student relationship stuff wasn't really realistic either. The moral of the story is, physical intimacy is cold, destructive, meaningless, and worsens the pain because it is ultimately very painful unless you truly love the person. Fanservice is there but it wasn't overdone, sexual shots are key to the plot so they are there in abundance for sure. Character motives are also unclear at times and/or character motives don't make any sense/are really stupid given earlier developments. If some things were better I would have given it a 9 most likely but it doesn't get there for me. It's definitely worth watching as a twist and breath of fresh air venturing into an aspect of romance that we barely see in anime, and it's well done. 7/10
