Now i initially dropped this show after watching episode 1, but then i figured "I should give it a benefit of the doubt", and so I did, and it's very very mediocre, in almost every possible faucet of imagination, I didn't regret it though.
The animation is definitely a redeeming quality: ![]()
____
It's very tame, very safe, and very "in-your-face" (for the lack of a better word), sometimes vibrant, sometimes not, and sometimes, it's clunky.
It definitely enhances all of the aspects of this show just by a BIT, because of the talent of Doga Kobo, but i can somewhat see some of the budget allocations.
The eye designs could get a little jarring, especially because they're humans, not robots.
For the characters, they're a mixed bag, but mostly just bad: ![]()
Let's start with BY FAR one of the worst main characters I've seen: Yuu(ki) Izumi and Miyako Shikimori.
Yuu(ki): during the ENTIRETY of this show, he hasn't got a SINGLE time where his luckiness ever improve, making him actually not standing out as much DESPITE BEING THE MAIN CHARACTER OF THE SHOW! I HATE how glued Yuuki is to Miyako, it's like Yuuki NEVER had a chance to be himself without her at all, despite maybe cooking.
Speaking of Miyako, she's even worse, she's far more generic than I thought, she's almost like a Mary Sue at some points (and i do not say that word a lot when talking about School Romances), basically great at anything, and I do literally mean that, her entire personality, and even the looks of her are generic, she just wants to be called cute and that's it.
OH AND I FORGOT TO MENTION. HOW MANY TIMES Miyako is called "Cute" or admired, during my entire watch (and i noted almost all the times), they say it like at least on average 5 times per episode, and it gets ANNOYING.
Overall, Yuuki and Miyako's whole entire relationship isn't "Twue Wuv", and the whole schtick of Yuuki's misfortune is just isn't executed all that well.
What REALLY saved this show though is the side characters funnily enough.
They actually have personalities and traits that are actually very interesting, especially Kamiya (halfway through the show) and Kyou Nekozaki. I am personally more invested in the side characters than the main ones, but the problem is: they're side characters, they're by design, less important.
If Kamiya or Nekozaki (or any of the others) became the main characters, this show would be MUCH MORE cohesive than it is.
The story is nothing too special: ![]()
There are a lot of places the characters discover, but they're all mostly the same type of places
the pacing is OK, i guess.
Overall, the characters are the reason why this show drags down A LOT, and the side characters are the ones who SHOULD BE the main ones
