・ English is my second language, there may be errors in my grammar..
・I try to make a spoiler-free review, however, in the section opinion might have some spoilers.
・General experience ≠ Final score. My personal score is based in 5 star system, so I tried to put an accurate number here, but isn't always the case.
・Locate (Brief) Conclusion + Recommendation section where the main points are summarized.
The shocking abduction of 'XXX-san' has captured the attention of the news media. As her parents cry out in anguish and her classmates voice their hope for her safe return, the protagonist knows the truth behind the television screen: they are all hypocrites who never cared for her. She proposes a game to her stalker: a game of escape from her parents and the police, with “marriage” as the prize. But this is not a simple story of forbidden love. There are secrets and twists that will surprise you.
This is a story about a kidnapper and his victim, a stalker who abducted the protagonist and took her to his place. At first, the reader might think that a twisted romance will blossom between them, but the plot has hidden secrets and surprises. The girl, who decided to start over in this opportunity, wants a new name, and he calls her "Sachi" (Happiness). She feels grateful for this chance to leave behind the world that didn't appreciate her. Even though he is her stalker, he is someone who cares for her happiness, and maybe that's why he gave her that name despite the risky situation they are in where society can judge them.
This can sounds, as a unexpectedly warm story where the misunderstading leads them to be seen correctly, nevethless, this story shows us the insecurities of the protagonists, their traumas and existential questions. Fearing death while searching for it, sometimes the quickest response is to end it all, until fear begins to overflow.
The protagonist know that the situation where she is unsafe and dangerous, she is running from her reality where she was reject by everyone, she feel her existing doesn’t have meaning. As her last option, being with her stalker give her the freedom to act as she wants, showing her true motives, forcing him encouragement to extend the happiness he is giving to her by living in those four walls, maintaining "the normalcy of every day".
The twisted part reside in how their expectations have changed throughout history, and now he can't live without her. Their relationship is not romantic, but rather partly dependent. While we may condemn his actions, the motives behind them are not necessarily depraved. "Onii-san" began to pile up lies unintentionally since he became a criminal. He hasn't lied about wanting Sachi to cherish herself or his desire for her to find happiness, but he understands that they cannot achieve it together. Yet he tries to encourage her to live, willing to pick up the life that she almost threw away.
In a room where happiness flourishes, they seek refuge from the harshness of their reality. However, their relationship is entangled and delicate, and their brief instances of joy are marred by hidden truths and deceit.
This story has its ups and downs. Some parts were really intense, but the author chose to end it that way to send a specific message. While I have my own musings on how this story could have concluded, I can't deny that the last few pages bring a almost a satisfying resolution for all the characters involved.
Without spoiling too much, this is a story that I would recommend to anyone who loves thriller and psychology. In some parts, it feels like a slices of life where they try to survive and enjoy daily living, then you remember the deep context that leaves you with a sense of sadness. That being said, I wouldn't recommend this type of story to anyone who is currently going through a difficult time and may not be able to make coherent decisions. Some of the content may not be suitable for you. That's all I have to say. Ciao!
