Attack on Titan has finally concluded and it has been one hell of an emotional journey. Having followed this series for almost 6 years, seeing it come to a close was really bittersweet.
This episode starts right where we left off. The corps is fighting off against Eren's founding titan, blows are being traded. If I'm being totally honest, this fight scene looked incredibly clean.
Animation: The animation in aot has always been S tier. Yes there is cgi used at times but it actually is very well incorporated into the show as is used quite smoothly, making action sequences look crisp and fluid. 10/10
OST: The OST in AOT is always S tier. Sawano teaming up with Kohta Yamamoto was the dream team, and I guess they cooked some more. Plus, it doesn't hurt to reuse some old OSTs. I really liked when they brought back "Barricades" in the previous special. 10/10
Voice acting: The voice acting in AOT has always been S tier. Marina Inuoe did a perfect job representing and expressing Armin's frustration, and Yuki Kaji's performance during Eren's breakdown was absolutely impeccable. Beautiful stuff. 10/10
OP/ED: Definitely not my favorite pair of op/ed. It doesn't olay during the actual ep, but I listened to them right after. The op is by linked horizon, but both the chorus and verse feel very discombobulated, and this op was a step down to their previous ops. The ed is by Ai Higuchi, and while I certainly prefer the ed over the op, its still no Akuma no Ko. Maybe my expectations were too high. 7/10
Ending: This is the weakest part imo. Even though this is a flawless adaptation, this does not change the fact that it is adapting an ending that is decent at best. I could bring up numerous issues with the ending, like how the Historia stuff was handled extremely poorly, or talk about how Eren killed his mom for no reason, or bring up the WHOLE shenanigans with Mikasa's character, how she pretty much was a slave to Eren all her life even after his death. Or we can talk about how Eren turned into a pathetic cuck just because he realized a little too late that killing the entire world's population was wrong and he just wanted some nice, comfy pussy all along..... Yeah. The ending has a lot of issues. And I mean a LOT. I could literally spend all day ranting about it but I think u guys get the point here. Because of the rushed ending, there were a numerous amount of plot holes as well as loose threads that remained unresolved. Not to mention that a lot of characters did not get fleshed out properly and get their proper development and characterization (like how they just timeskipped with Historia and rendered her useless post season 3). I'm not going to act like the ending was trash, because it did have some good points, but it was far from great. 6/10
Overall enjoyment: Despite my criticisms, I REALLY enjoyed this special. As I mentioned earlier, I think MAPPA have done an absolute perfect job at adapting this series and I'm really grateful for that. Sadly, what they adapted was a mediocre ending. If the adaptation was anything less than PERFECT, i would've rated this much lower. But it wasn't. So I'll give AOT final special an 8/10. I'm not your average bandwagonner claiming that it's #1 peak fiction. But I'm also not a standard hater. Overall I think it was an amazing adaptation, but i have to take off some points for the issues that come from the source material, since thats obviously what they adapted from.
AOT is a special series for me and even though i dont think its perfect it had a massive impact on the lives of myself and many others around the world. Have a nice day/evening and tatakae forever.
