This is my first review ever but seeing another review calling the ending "bad" had me rolling my eyes and we need to address the elephant in the room.
Let's start from the beginning..
AoT was released on April, 2013. While I think the top 3 (One Piece/Naruto/Bleach) has pretty much been solidified, I could argue that AoT should be considered one of the top 10 anime released till today.
Not only thanks to its action, but due to the story's massive twist around the end of S3 and of course, the whole season 4.
When it started in 2013, everybody thought this story was about a small city attacked by these giant monsters.
It was assumed that there was a mastermind behind it all which was trying to achieve powerful status by attacking the inner circles.
After Grisha (Eren's father) was mentioned, everybody created this theory that the mastermind was Grisha and he was somehow trying to destroy humanity.
All these things were going around since nobody knew where the story was going. Of course, everything changed after season 4.
The Final Part
And now, after 10 long years, we reach the epilogue. Eren unleashes his full attack on the world, willing to basically cause a massive genocide that will supposedly bring peace for him and his people.
His friends & comrades, of course, are not willing to just let him do as he pleases and end up fighting to see which group will overwhelm their opponents.
The Ending
Unlike the previous part, this one had fluid, amazing animation, and the CGI was a lot less noticeable than the previous parts.
Mappa is known for taking up a lot of projects and it's only logical for certain details to be overlooked/not given the proper care.
The story was incredible as well. Some past events that we thought were uncontrollable were predetermined or happened as a result of one's actions.
Should you watch it?
We have lots of unexpected events throughout AoT and the ending just adds up to that narrative.
But it's cathartic. Sure, it's not the most memorable ending ever but there are a lot of elements that contributed to this ending.
It has some bad moments (Eren will say some dumb stuff), sure, but that doesn't take away from the great experience the story provides. Even in its last moments, AoT flips the script and continues to do what it does best: plot twists.
Overall, an incredible story with a satisfying ending. As someone who started watching AoT when it was first released, I'm happy to be a part of this incredible story and if you haven't watched the last part, please do so. You won't regret it.
