If you grew up during the 2000's or the early 2010's, you noticed there was a Sonic anime that was airing during the time. Sure, it maybe your first non-Pokemon anime and it was one of those anime dubbed by the infamous 4Kids, but it was good. It's time to go fast into the world of Sonic X.
Sonic and his friends are teleported one day into a human world by accident, somehow, Sonic meets up with this human friend named Chris and stays at his house, along the way, more characters from Sonic's world end up in there too, and action ensues.
Each episode is like a mixed bag, sometimes you get a good episode, but other times you got some ridiculous episodes, not every episode of this anime can be great. But there are some ones that are really way-past cool, ranging from the funniness of the cast playing baseball, trying to stop Sonic from running forever, and whatever the Chaotix was up too, to the heartwarming and gut-wrenching moments like Cream Vs. Gemerl or Sonic helping out Hellen, even the fight scenes are awesome and goodly written, such as the climax of "Showdown In Space".
So, I don't like the humans in the show, but sometimes they have their moments, but the characters that make the show stand out are the Mobians themselves, each one gets their own episode to shine in, such as the tough Knuckles or the cute little bunny that is Cream, and those episodes really help out their development throughout this anime.
Sure, the humans plots may be boring, but one human character I like on the show has to be Topaz, Rouge's spy partner that we get introduced in Ep. 11, and her character arc is kind of good, she even falls in love with Tanaka during the tourney arc, and it is brought up in a few episodes after that.
The visuals in the show start of cartoony by Season 1, with all of the zany expressions that Sonic makes and the fast-paced action of it all, but by Season 2, to contrast with the anime taking a serious route with all the story arcs going on, the visuals make the epic moments of the season look even good, and even it could impact a scene, such as Gemerl's goodbye to Cream, where we see the robot's final moments as he is drowing, remembering the innocence of Cream, or the epic ending to "Showdown In Space", where Sonic and Shadow save the day by going into their Super modes in outer space.
The OP's of the show are kind of great, but the 4Kids theme sounds action-packed and makes you ready for what Sonic is gonna get into this time, reminding that Sonic has to "gotta go fast", but the original Japanese theme sounds epic too, and it even plays in the background of some episodes too, noticing how Sonic is always there to say the day.
The ED's of the show maybe cool and all, but my favorite ED has to be the 2nd OP, setting a heartwarming tone after seeing an episode of cool Mobian fun, and just seeing Sonic meeting up with Amy in the OP really fits the tone of the ED like a glove.
Even the insert songs play during select scenes of the show set the tone, from "Live and Learn" playing at the end of the arc that adapts Sonic Adventure 2, to the insert song that plays during Ep. 52's final scene when Amy confesses to Sonic, and Sonic responds in the most heartwarming way possible.
I liked the show, and it's one of my guilty pleasures to watch, some episodes we're okay for me, but on the other hand, I enjoyed some of them too. I really liked how humans and Mobians could get along, and seeing what crazy stuff these characters might get into, I wouldn't say it's the best, but more like a good anime. Probably a watch if you're fan of the blue hedgehog himself.
And as for the decision for whenever to choose the dub or sub, if you're looking for campiness and nostalgia, watch the dub, it may cut out scenes from the original Japanese version, but it's alright. But if you're not into the dubbed version, the subbed version is for you, keeping a lot of humor right into the anime itself.
Maybe one day, I'll watch the Metarex Saga and give that a review also, but who knows by the time I'll watch it? But just like that song in Sonic Adventure 2.. live and learn.
