Background:
WELL WELL WELL! Back at it again, am i right? well i want to rewatch this movie because of a new anime original project to see if my mind changes, and so i did, and surprisingly, there are a lot of good qualities i missed while watching this whole movie.
I don't remember it being as garbage and cancerous as i made it out to be.
Spoiler warning as always.
Let's start with the Animation: ![]()
Bibury has send off this series (canonically, as of the time of writing) with the most stellar as possible animation that they can have, every single character, even the less relevant ones are put into display, full of emotion and fluidity, and it's a direction far more different than in season 2.
Coupled with an amazing soundtrack, the overall experience is very enjoyable.
(side note: i still don't like the beach opening, it feels off, in my opinion, and honestly they should just remove it for more development of the characters)
___
For the characters, I've changed my mind on a notable one: Even the less developed ones, like Itsuki, still feel like characters in the entire movie, and i'm glad the script was enough for me to care for all of these characters, while still keeping a serviceable run time (more on that later).
Everything relating to the Quint's mom was honestly very heartbreaking to see.
Let's talk about YOTSUBA, and Futaro, for a bit:
I initially hated her inclusion into the story, as she didn't have nearly as much development as the others but after rewatching it, even though i understood why, i would still think they could done A LOT more to her, aside from giving her past school life and personality with everyone around her.
The script didn't utilize its over 2 hour runtime on developing Yotsuba ENOUGH in my opinion, as the past seasons, Yotsuba is more of a comic relief more than actual character. Still though, i like her now after the rewatch.
For Futaro, he's still my #1 favorite character, and has a lot of amazingly heartfelt moments in the movie, his entire chemistry with Yotsuba is very creatively written and easily the highlight of this movie in my opinion, it's great that he recognizes what Yotsuba meant to him.

For the other characters.
Ichika: Not nearly as much character development as the others, as her side generally plays like a standard love story, in a sense, but not neglected at all.
Nino: Of course i still want to have Syphillis rather than her, but for once i actually gave a shit about her, as her "side" of the story is really engaging, and all of the things about her cooking skills seem very charming and even Maruo admires it.
Miku: This time she is worried and gets quite angry at him because of his childhood friend. Takebayashi, she also talks with Yotsuba about impersonation and how she cannot become Yotsuba, and decided to regret the decision. Still my 2nd favorite character as her own story is still great.
Itsuki: I.... actually gave a fuck about her?
Jinnosuke's entire character was a complete turning point for all of the quints, but especially Itsuki, he has been deceived by Miku in order for Itsuki to talk to him, and found out that Jinno's actually kind of a dick, as he leaves the entire family AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, the quint's mom (Rena) behind, ended up with nobody trusting his messages, as Maruo shows up.
It's a good character arc for Itsuki in general, yet it also develops the Quints at the same time. My third favorite because of this.
Speaking of Maruo, although he doesn't appear for long, he does make a significant appearance in how the Quints grow as people.
Story on the first 21 minutes: ![]()
21:50-onwards: ![]()
The first 20 minutes is what really grinds my gears the most, it's very slow, bogs down from the actual story, and a lot of the shit was just too slow for no reason, nothing really happens at all, all until the 21 minute mark.
This is where the script shines, its pacing is a lot faster, a lot of actually meaningful events are happening,
The entire "The Last Festival" sequence is amazing, the most memorable part of this whole movie.
I would love to see more Harems do shit like this as their ending movie/season. Every single notable role in the cast has to overcome a certain problem in the festival, and I can say that this is an improvement over season 2, which played more like comedy rather than actual romance and character development.
While i still wish the others to win, I'm glad that this series has gone into a different turn than most other harems, my MAIN COMPLAINT though, is that it isn't executed very well, it had a pretty good idea in mind, unexpected plot twists are becoming more and more of my cup of tea.
It's just that, the bride being Yotsuba is a problem, as we don't SEE her much in season 2, thus the ending is naturally not nearly as impactful, a missed opportunity.
Overall thoughts
I have refreshed my mind on what I think about this movie, but i would think a lot of the shit relating to Yotsuba should be handled a lot better, and the ending while isn't the best, it still made some sense, (or is it an ending in the first place?)
