Where do you even begin, the opening was brilliant and the opening episode opens with a bang displaying plenty of action which leads to the introduction of our two favourite stars Chisato and Takina. I love the way they were both presented as the problem children of the DA despite their many unique talents, They also compliment each other due to the fact that one is an expert marksman whilst the other cant aim to save her life unless its at close range but it works due to Chisato's unique talents of dodging bullets. Now I know many will complain that is not realistic and so on but hold on.... this is an anime, its meant to be fantasy and this show takes the cake on capitalising on it.
What I love most about this show is the character development as each episode builds no only on the relationship between both Chisato and Takina but also on their individual personalities for example Takina slowly learning to be more human rather then operating as if she's a DA programmed machine, it doesn't spoil her character neither because it doesn't take away from her skill as an agent but rather adds humanity to her character, this is incredible important in shows like this due to the fact that if she was to maintain being a machine so to speak throughout the show, she would in a way be no better then Majima who simply wants to tangle with death.
With Chisato i find the transition from carefree to stellar operative brilliant because it shows her as both the ditzy pain in the ass who just wants to have fun and the agent who with the resolve to save as many as she can all without killing anyone, at one point i theorized that Takina would start using non lethal rounds as well but I'm glad i was proven wrong as this would take away from Chisato's uniqueness and it added impact towards the end where Takina's actions became more related to her emotions rather then combat analysis.
This show answered many questions for example the purpose of a Lycoris and how they work which some anime's don't even do (some anime's don't even explain basic plot), no its no surprise that the animation was incredible due to it being a modern show however what i am pleased about is that the quality of the combat scenes and animation remained unchanged throughout showing that unlike other shows the budget as not squandered and therefor did not compromise the viewers experience of it.
The plot involving Chisato's heart was certainly compelling as it shows her selflessness and the reason we and I mean we (don't lie you loved her character too) loved her, she was a compelling protagonist alongside Takina and as the story progressed it pulled your heart strings to care and worry for the both of them, both for Chisato's health and Takina's mental wellbeing. The villains where just hateable enough to compel you to keep watching and the plot and the way it was told was concise enough to hold your attention. I mean I finished this the same day i started it so that speaks volumes for its quality.
To summarise this show was perfect blend of action, comedy and compelling story telling that tugged your heartstrings made you want to punch the villains and kept you glued to the screen. From incredible cinematics to heart breaking twists it truly was one of the best anime's I've ever seen and was more then happy to award a perfect score.
Finally a key point is the fact they did not wrap up Majima's story, by leaving him missing it allows them to make a sequel which I think was clever writing although some may disagree and complain that it leaves an unfinished product but the manga is still releasing meaning there's a decent chance we get a season 2 of this anime and i for one will be waiting for it. So here's to you Chisato and Takina, you pulled my heart strings and kept me glued to my screen waiting for more. A fantastic anime through and through.
