One of the best sci-fi anime's brought to life from the TTRPG & video game. Personally i enjoyed it the concept in which very few win in this case given the environment one is exposed to growing up in a city filled with never ending chaos with the house always winning on top of things is something few anime's cover.
A short but bitter sweet reality not too far from our own this is probably one of my trope faves to recently come over in the last few years nor will it be my last by this studio i definitely hope. They had a world to pull from & they delivered. The character development, the story to this world & detail to the TTRPG & video game it self is something to behold. the charterers are relatable as a group of outcast with various demographics that hit home when living in a universe that could parallel our own ever so slightly.
The animation & choice for implant moves & color use is perfect doe visual description, for a dark stylized world. They kept true to the world & developers of the OG TTRPG & game so fans can experience something unique & for those who don't play the game or enjoy TTRPG's but i can say i look forward to more. They have a chance to ever do another spin off with another character because this type of universe its possible, they can totally bring a few more into a fun stories of cyberpunk legends into our world. With the corporate evil, street life of gangs & just trying to survive so many more stories could be made leaving you wanting more especially after this one.
Bringing back the classic dark world i myself grew up with watching from BladeRunner & Escape from New York this sci-fi run of chaos & crazy will keep me on the edge even after a few re-watch's. so if you one to enjoy these type of anime's on the sci-fi spectrum & want to live a fun campaign of edge running madness with out the gaming, one that you wish never ended this would be the one to watch through & through.
The high light to me is the detail to the world they took inspiration from not only in the game of the original TTRPG but also the video game as well if your a huge fan like me being able to see locations from the books to the video game & to experience them yourself with great artistic visuals & animation which is something a lot of anime's do from there creator's locations but as for someone like me. i don't think ill visit japan unfortunately anytime soon but its great to know the animators & artist pulled from the world around them so to see the world of night city in animation is something else to behold with what they made, even more to experience in the game when you play. someone like me who has lived on the west coast of California can experience something close to what the lore of the TTRPG states but again I'm grateful for the artist and creators of this amazing sci-fi anime to take such detail in the products, environment, world, characters & time for this experience to be made.
Personally this is on my re watch list / comfort show just for the sound track alone which if listened to implies the world your embarking on. for most they think your usually over hyped stylized animated show but if your a Cyberpunk fan & truly enjoy a wild ride from the sci fi genre if recommend putting time into the show.
i know some may find this review odd because i aimed for not spoiling as much as i could but i hope you can absolutely know that as a fan from both TTRPG & the video game that this is actually really accurate for a story to properly fit in the cyberpunk universe & campaign
