Night City takes street kids in two ways: through corporate apprenticeship, or through the alley. David Martinez aimed for the first lane — Arasaka Academy on a scholarship his mother bled herself dry to pay for — and falls into the second when she dies in a stray-bullet crossfire on the freeway. He inherits her bills, her old apartment, and a black-market combat implant he isn't supposed to be able to handle. The series follows him from rookie merc to a name people in the city know, and the cyberpsychosis his body is quietly building toward whether he notices or not.
