Nastume Yuujinchou is one of the ultimate cozy anime, exploring the world of youkai and exorcism. While it does sound like a nice and niche anime, like the Kakuriyou no Yadomeshii, this anime also touches on topics like bullying and other issues. The good news about it is that it doesn't delve deep into them, but at the same time, it also gives a good general view of how people cope with the trauma.
The great thing about this anime is that Nastume Yuujinchou does not depict the youkai (the vast majority) as evil or cunning, mainly seeking to cause harm to the humans. There are moments in this season where we get to witness the youkai's vulnerability to the same emotions humans feel, such as love. Because of this, there have been many moments that brought me to tears. I really love how this anime reminds everyone that humans aren't the only species in this world that is capable of emotions, though, in a more realistic context, you don't judge a book by its cover.

Season 1 generally introduce the world of Natsume Yuujinchou, focusing on Natsume having to tie up the loose ends his late grandmother left behind. There is also a general introduction to the world of exorcism and sorcery but never too deep into the lore. Season 1 seems to be making us get comfortable with the thought of Natsume being a human with extraordinary spiritual powers who, instead of using it to vanquish the youkai like other people does, use it for good, like helping other youkais with their general regrets, and returning their names which his late grandmother took from them.
(Picture Source: jp.pinterest.com thru' Google Image Search)Admittedly, season 1 could be a bit boring since almost every episode is just Natsume helping a youkai and returning them their names. Of course, there are a few episodes where things are different, as mentioned earlier, which talks about exorcism. Still, season 1 is still a must-watch to understand the world of Natsume Yuujinchou for the upcoming seasons.
