I still miss the "Super" part in this social experiment
Let's look back a bit...
Sailor Moon R was pretty mid, giving the viewer weird fetish-like humor and really weird character traits. Some episodes are just weird to watch, not the best time. But even here the humor and some other characters saved much.
Sailor Moon S in the other hand fixed this. It was the best of Sailor Moon so far and has given us wonderful new characters and a interesting new setting. I really hoped this was a new step for the series, giving us more intresting stuff to care about.
Here comes the big "but"
But somehow SuperS had to go back to the R-roots. It was really bad for like half of the series, especially with the new villain trio. And it's not the fillers. It's the overall canon stuff. For example:
Spoiler, click to view
Adult women molesting a literal child to get his dreams? Rape-like strategies by the men of the group? Man that's just the worst ever. The other half was slightly better, giving us way better villains, but just wasn't enough to save the big problems of this series.
This god damn horse
The entire Pegasus plot is scary. Not in the good way. It's so creepy seeing this adult horse that has a adult human form simping for the 9yo girl. It's so weird to see. The entire plot around this horse is just not good. The main thing about this horse is the big Super transformation, which should not be a spoiler, it's pretty obvious the time the series begins. The entire Super transformation is so goddamn useless. The villains in this series are the worst villains Sailor Moon and her team has to fight. Sure some minor plot elements FORCE them to use their Super Sailor forms, but it's just... not worth it. Besides maybe Usagi and Chibiusa not a single character even changes! Like huh?!
It's still Sailor Moon, but is it the one we like?
It's still basic Sailor Moon in the other hand. If you really love the series, you can probably try. The really not that good plot has the same stuff as the very first series: Daily problems needing daily heroines. I miss the fun, that was with this little quirky fights. But it's still, even if you have to search veeeeery deep, the same old Sailor Moon. But I can recommend to just skip this arc entirely and watch Super Stars and the franchises finale instead. Nobody will notice that somethings missing.
