Review: The premise of Demon Slayer is very good, having such a simple beginning as Tanjirou wanting to find the cure for his beloved sister Nezuko to stop being a demon, this being the only survivor of Tanjirou's family after being attacked by a demon. The show has a great start, and ultimately is a show that will grab you from the first episode, the problem comes that the initial shock is diluted as the episodes pass giving way to a story that is losing momentum, to the point of becoming heavy and boring. Despite having a clear objective for the plot which is to defeat the demon leader Muzan Kibutsuji, the show gets lost in subplots that are stretched out more than necessary and do not contribute much to the plot. The saddest part of all this is that Demon Slayer seems at times to want to bounce back and give us something memorable, but is immediately squashed by downplaying the importance of what we have just seen. This is most noticeable in episode number 19 called “God of Fire” in which Tanjirou and his sister Nezuko team up to defeat a powerful demon named Rui, who belongs to the 12 demonic moons which are a group of powerful demons subordinate to Muzan, giving rise to one of the most audio-visually beautiful and incredible scenes I've ever seen. However this is immediately dismissed in the next episode by showing that this was not enough to defeat Rui and resulting in Tanjirou being saved by one of the 12 pillars, which are the most skilled demon hunters in existence.
In addition to the wasted opportunities in terms of plot, the supporting characters do not help much, in some cases these characters try to be a comic relief that do nothing more than make you feel ashamed of them and do not have a shred of grace, not to mention how uncharismatic are the 12 pillars mentioned above with one or two exceptions. Finally, the last thing I would like to point out is that the animation is incredibly good, giving visually beautiful scenes, but again this is overshadowed by the poor story. Despite all this I see a lot of potential in the show, and I hope that the other seasons I will be watching soon will reverse the image I have of Demon Slayer.
Conclusion: Demon Slayer is a disappointment, it is a show with very good bases, and ideas, visually exceptional and with memorable moments, but this is overshadowed by a story that at times feels elongated, and with very bad secondary characters
